WSJ ^ | March 11, 2012, 12:17 PM | Gary Fields

Posted on 03/11/2012 11:27:31 AM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

In some of his strongest language about the role of the U.S. in Afghanistan, Mr. Gingrich said on “Fox News Sunday” he had reached the conclusion “frankly about the entire region that is much more pessimistic than Washington’s official position.”

Hard to disagree with Newt on this.

We cannot police the world.

I agree with Newt. Bring them home to “police” the border.

No more blood and treasure spilled, dammit. Bring our Troops home! Nuke the place from 7th to 1st century, and turn it into a green ashtray! We’re not a “policeman”.

Bob Woodward’s book Ombama’s Wars (where he had full access to all parties including military people) makes it clear that Biden (who is in charge of Afghanistan) and Obama agree with Newt BUT they lack the guts to pull the plug. Instead, they limit our soldiers with ROE and let them sit there like fish in a barrel, whicle they “negotiate” with Taliban and are prepared to sacrifice the hard earned womens’ rights. Leave! AND do not keep Karzai afloat with Billions of dollars which are already planned.

Under Obama it is a grave danger to be on foreign soil in anything resembling a military action.

Our troops deserve a Commander In Chief who loves and respects them.

NEWT, 2012 - Born and raised inside the military.

Romney would never expose the debacle of Hillary/Obama/Biden
in a general election campaign.

NEWT would win on this alone, aside from his brains and intellect on domestic issues run by Marxists.

No matter what you do to or for a muslim, at the end of the day, you are still an infidel and the muslim will still hate you.

Afghanistan is one of those situations where we are between a rock and hard place - we cannot dishonor those who have fallen in Afghanistan, and which does that the most, staying at any cost or not staying so we can minimize how many more comrades must be lost in an effort which, at the end of the day, may not produce a government managing a society much better than the Taliban ruled country we invaded to change.

This condition was not inevitable.

It IS nearly inevitable when you fight war not as war but as a police action.

War must be fought as an ultimate fight and it is most frequently won by which side wages that ulitimate fight - which is to keep fighting, no matter what, until your enemy is either totally defeated or gives up. The Taliban have been fighting a war. We have been executing a police action. The Taliaban are neither totally defeated or prepared to give up. Maybe we are.

Had we been prepared to “conquer” Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, and more widely the Taliban, as we did Germany and Japan in World War II, U.S. presidential candidates would not be pondering this question today.

Newt is incredibly qualifiyed to be President, but the personal mess of walking away from wives and “ethics” charges which ruined his last days as Speaker, seem to be a huge drag in the primaries. I can’t believe he only got 15% in Ohio while Mitt and Rick got about 38% each. The dog just won’t hunt (I am very sad to say). I can’t figure it out why (other than the stated character issues above and Newt’s claim of Mitt vastly outspending him - which Obama would do also).

The Taliban have been fighting a war. We have been executing a police action.Just like the VC and NVA were fighting a war, and we were fighting a police action.

Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

And in other news, Rick Santorum informs an adoring group of church ladies, “I never sit on a couch with any woman other than my wife”.

Sleep well America!

Keep talking, NG.

We all yearn for a CIC who can rightly command respect from the troops and the citizens as well. A CIC who actually values the lives of those in uniform and who won’t ‘go to war’ willy nilly with only blood and bankruptcy to show for it.

Newt spent very little time in Ohio, more or less conceding that state along with Michigan, in the hope that Santorum would prevail against Romney.

At this point, I would welcome an alliance between Rick and Newt, anything to prevent Romney from being the nominee.

Sorry, I have to disagree strongly. We would have to have been ready to defeat Islam as we defeated German and Japan in WWII, and we were simply not willing to do this. Not with Dubya proclaiming the peacefulness and friendliness of the religion in the wake of 9/11.

Pull them out, dump Agent Orange of the modern defoliants on the poppy fields and let them kill each other.

If any strike/terror is plotted or launched from their soil, glass them. Enough.

Repeat for any other muslim hellhole. Tell the UN to pound sand. We forget too easily that America does not need the world. The world Needs America. 10 years of isolation on our part would be a good start, Israel/Japan and possibly Germany excepted. Then we can talk.

We can restructure business now and take the pain or later and take more pain.

If Santorum had said the same words today, The Newt Freepers would excoriate him.

As a Santo supporter, I agree with Newt that staying there forever doesn’t honor our fallen. No one could ever make anything out of that corner of the world.
