Jets acquire Tim Tebow for draft pick
ESPN ^ | March 21, 2012 | Rich Cimini

Unusually quiet in recent weeks, the New York Jets shattered the calm Wednesday by completing a trade for polarizing quarterback Tim Tebow, the team confirmed.

The Jets will send a fourth-round pick to the Denver Broncos, a source said.

Tebow, a former first-round pick, went on the trading block Monday when the Broncos secured free agent Peyton Manning, who signed a five-year, $96 million contract.

Several teams expressed interest, including Tebow's hometown Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Jets -- perceived as a sleeper at the outset -- pulled off the splashiest trade of the offseason.

"What were the broncos thinking? Is that the best they could get?

Yup.

Tebow's price plunged dramatically after the BRONCOS gave up on him.

But it's a great deal for the JETS!

And for Denver, a 4th was a pretty decent return.

But why trade him at all? His salary wasn't an issue.

“polarizing? No bias on ESPNs part there huh?”

Just watch the responses on this thread alone and judge for yourself whether or not ESPN called it accurately.

That does tend to happen in football. A bad investment hand ties the org, and so they force it until there is nothing left.

Really? The Jets have no intention of playing him at QB. Management loves their weak fragile Sanchez. The coddle the hell out of him.

While Sanchez may be the starter, I willing to bet we will see Tebow on the field a lot next year running the Wildcat that Sparano loves so much. I also would not be surprised to see them trot both Tebow and Sanchez out on the field together at times.

While Sparano sucked bigtime as a head coach he is a very creative and capable coordinator and I imagine he will use Tebow in a myriad of formations.

Also, I expect to see Tebow on the field a lot inside the Red Zone ala his freshman year at Florida and like Oklahoma uses the “Belldozer”

I also look forward to seeing MArcel Darius, Kyle Williams and Mario Williams slamming Sanchez and Tebow to the ground multiple times next year.

Watch the Jets go allllll the way this year! Get rid of slowpoke Sanchez and Tebow will win the Superbowl for them.

Probably team dynamics. Dont want a split locker room, so get as much as you can for him. It was either this or get nothing when he leaves in free agency. At least with the trade, he has a chance to play in the next few years. It may be helpful to Tebow.

Don’t forget, ESPN sat on a CONFESSION by the wife of a child rapist for over a decade. When asked why they didn’t contact the police and hand over the tape, they replied, “That’s not our job.”

ESPN may be owned by Disney, but they are only interested in being in the Disney family becaue all those young boys represent a target-rich environment.

A pox on them. I don’t watch ESPN anymore, and for a sports fan, that’s difficult.

Finally, someone getting real about Tebow's natural position on the field. If he can pull this off and witness to New York I'll take my hat off to him.

As long as they stay healthy. Both Williams' have had injury issues so that is obviously a concern. But, if healthy that line is going to wreak havoc.

Now I hope Courtney Upshaw drops to the Bills at #10 to strengthen the LB core.

Gee I wish there had been someway to bet on this in Vegas. I might have made a bundle. Probably not, since this was obvious from day one.

The heck with what Denver received in return - Tebow was always going to be traded to the weakest, most screwed-up, least likely to be successful team in the league. After taking a gigantic gamble on a 36 year old quarterback that may never play back to his old level, did anyone seriously think Denver would trade him to someplace he might start or be successful? The team management will be in for enough grief if Manning is sitting on the bench injured by game three. Can you imagine if while that was happening, Tebow was out winning games in the last second.

And don't forget that in all the criticism that has ever been leveled at Elway, no one has ever said his ego was too small.

Tebow will be a Jet for a week... Elway needed to unload him ASAP to avoid turmoil in Denver. The Jets organization, having connections to Tebow’s agent, saw this as an opportunity to steal him at a cheap price, generate some buzz in the NY media, then unload him for a higher price to a Florida team.

He will not play a down for the Jets.

He was upstaging horseface in Denver. Elway’s ego REQUIRES the land available in the Denver area to manage. Elway won two Super Bowls after he was 37. He hires Manning because Elway sees himself in Manning.

Manning will have free reign to run the offense there, and probably some say in hiring, given their O-line is like a bank of toll booths.

If Tebow wins in NY, you know what they are going to start singing, right?

“The building block that was rejected became the cornerstone of a whole new world.”

I think his trade is exciting. As for the culture in NY, when the Jews were captured and taken into Babylon, they changed Babylon more than Bablyon changed the Jews.

I have a reason to root for the Jets. Mark Sanchez was pretty weak magic.

You beat me to it.....why did they have to describe him as
“polarizing”? Oh yeah, ESPN is owned by ABC (I think - LOL). No bias there.....wonder what they would have said about him if he was a muzzie? Oh yeah, never mentioned it!

Upshaw will definitely be there at 10. I have also seen them looking into Coples. He has insane length, and is about the same size as Peppers. The only thing that bothers me there is his production didnt always match his athleticism. Have they addressed LT? I heard they may be giving up on Bell there.
