I'm in the market for a pistol and was talking to a client of mine (ex RAF EOD) who has a pretty good collection (and a shooting gallery in his basement) and he mentioned the Sig Sauer as his favorite (along with the Baretta) but I can't remember which model he mentioned.
Anyone have any advice on Sigs in general and which models are worth checking out?
Like driving a upper series BMW. High, very high quality. A bit complex and seemingly fragile guts, but no doubt top engineering. ( I’m a used .45 with a bit of rust and dust fan. The AK’s of pistols ).
Anyway, well worth the money, which it keeps its value, and he’ll enjoy fine German gun theory and engineering.
I think the real differences between handguns are very marginal and mostly subjective.
Serious advice to you: Go to a gun range that is also a dealer; most will allow you to rent as many models as youd like to test fire. Test the Sig Sauer along with several others
Best advice right here from fwdude. The quality and selection of firearms has never been better.
I have carried Sig and Glock on and off duty - several models. I was also a Glock armorer. Carried a Beretta in the Army. I also own several other brands and have tried out many more.
fwdude is right.... go try several brands/models at a range and and see what feels right to you. You can get all the advice in the world, but there is no substitute for test-driving.
If you want to limit the expense try to pick 3-5 that feel right and try them out. Don’t neglect the other major manufacturers either... S&W makes terrific handguns too!
I have out shot Kimber pro carry II’s with the lowly Rock island commander.
$350
226 shoots like a charm. Very nice double action first and single action second round.
I have owned several. It is a fine weapon.
And that is just what I like.
I love the CZ 82.
I have an older P226, and recently added a P226 and P229 with their newer frame. Love them both. I also have the .22 conversion kits for both which really makes for inexpensive practice.
While the price may be higher than other handguns out there, it is worth it in my opinion. Given some of the groups that carry Sigs, and knowing that I’m not likely to subject mine to those sort of conditions, I’m extremely confident in their reliability.
Everybody loves the idea of the DA/SA trigger.
The shooting? Not so much....
“...but then the boating accident way out and sea...”
LOL. I might have one of those, too!
I got some nice CZ branded (some shade of) red cocobolo wood grips for my P-01 to replace the stock rubber. Very nice!
Carries well in Comp-Tac Minotaur. I want to show it off but conceal it, oh well.
Ceska ZBrojovka!
I am a female law enforcement officer and carry the P228 and the Glock. I love them both but I am partial to the Sig. Very very accurate, and this particular model fits well in my smaller hands.
If the DA is smooth and not a finger breaker I love it.
I have some that have really stiff DA and beautiful light crisp SA
I still like that better than a long smooth DA every shot.
I just rack the slide on those and use them in SA only
The 82 is beautiful for carry
I have a P-226 and it’s pretty nice. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Sig.......
It’s all preference. I don’t have big hands, and the sig always seemed a bit beefy for me.
my personal preference is my glock 26. I have a 17 and a 26, but the 26 is better.
I nave a beretta 92b as well and don’t like it. Too big and clunky.
Go with what feels best for you personally.
Can get a bit complicated for novices with the decocking lever. The other issue is that a lot of the controls on the M11 (Sig 228) are pretty far aft on the left side. Great for right handers, not so much for lefties. I grew up shooting 1911s which you could do everything left handed except the safety pretty easily.
The agency I work for now issues H&K, my first issue handgun with ambidextrous controls. Ironically, I now have a slide release on the right side of my gun in an organization that teaches sling shotting the slide.
I’m more accurate with my Rock than my Kimber. When I took my first tactical shooting class, the rock got the nod. When I took my 2nd tactical shooting class, the rock got the nod. There is a pattern here somewhere.
I just replaced the CZ 82 for a Ruger LC9 for the higher caliber round and smaller size on hot summer days, and its a nice pistol, but I love the CZ 82
I got the LC9 too. It goes where ever I go now in my pocket.
My little Beretta .32 Tomcat misses me I’m sure.
I got started on a Browning Hi-power and like the way it fits my hands, like the CZ.
Rumor is that Les Baer recruits smithys from Rock island.
