The cop should be fired.
He is totally unfit for duty. I don’t know what to say about the moron who gave the wrong address.
I can only imagine what would have happened if the skin colors of the dog’s owner and the trigger happy cop had been reversed.
Threats of violence and riots from mobs wearing “I am Sisko” and “Justice for Sisko” dog collars would sweep across the nation.
Even if Sisko was about to attack FraidyCop (and I doubt he was), the dog (and owner) were clearly unarmed, just like Trayvon.
Also, why did FraidyCop see the dog owner as a threat and pull his gun on him? Did he see a woman running from him, as reported in the 911 call? Did he just PROFILE the first man he saw?
If this cop is not removed from duty, or at least put behind a desk, there is about a 99.9999% chance he will one day shoot an innocent, civilian, human to death.
I’d say the best way to attack this problem, while not emotionally satisfying, is through a lawsuit.
Care of a dog runs $20/day at most kennels. So, take the dog 3 yrs x 365days/yr x $20= $21,900
Treble damages, emotional distress, wanton distruction of personal property and I can see where this could easily cost the city $500,000 per incident.
Morons do not learn from moral or ethical lessons, they are incapable of understanding the damage they willfully do. However, getting hit with $500,000 and either being PERSONALLY liable, or having the department get hit with these bills should eventually get the message across.
Personally, I’d like to force the cop to witness something he holds precious and dear executed in front of him.
What was said on the video is that they have permission to fire their weapon if they feel their life is in danger. I don’t understand how...even if the 40 lb dog WAS attempting to bite...is such an imminent danger that he thinks his life would CEASE if it happened?
The dog was doing its job, the police were not.
I don’t believe that there is enough in “reparations” the PD can or will pay to overcome the traumatic loss of the dog. A dog isn’t a “pet”, a dog is family and this family should sue until the city has been bled of every dollar they can get.
We have 7 dogs and consider all them to be our “children”. Were this to happen at MY house, I would end up dead because there would be dead cops and gunshots all over the place after I grabbed MY gun and started shooting back.
Just because a dog is big, DOESN’T make it vicious. Too many of these incidents are occurring where cops enter a house (the RIGHT one OR the WRONG one!) and shoot the dog right off the bat. There is no reason or justification for this and the practice needs to stop, NOW!!!
I, generally, try to side with cops. They have a tough job (sometimes) and they are constantly exposed to unexpected or dangerous situations, but that doesn’t give them the right to shoot an animal. Would they shoot a 16 year-old who happened to play fullback or halfback on the HS football team just because he was big?
This is an issue of training, communication and discipline. All 3 are missing from too many police departments across the country!!
Does anyone know what the laws are regarding police officers or other people coming onto your property? It sounds like whether or not he will be reprimanded, there isn’t a legal issue as to this man coming onto the property to begin with, even though it was the wrong location. So all that it takes is someone to report your house, or in the unlikely event that it’s the wrongly identified house, to have something like this happen?
I can’t understand why cops instinctively just shoot the dogs.
Twenty-five years ago, I was attached by a large doberman pinscher, the dog had me on the ground and was attempting to kill me. Two deputy sherrifs witnessed the attack and rather than shoot the dog, one opened the trunk of their patrol car and took out a shovel. They then beat the dog with the back of the shovel until it ran away.
The dog survived and so did I. The owner got cited for not having the dog on a lease.

When did police shooting dogs become such a problem? I don’t remember hearing about this 20 years ago.
Good point. FraidyCop’s LIFE was not in the least bit of danger. It is possible he could have suffered a dog bite, which is no fun, but if the dog had bitten him, he could have shot and killed it then.

Seems there are more and more people on power trips...this worries me because I have VERY LARGE but gentle German Shepherds and it seems like even if they came onto the property uninvited and unannounced, they would be able to do shoot them.
