Dog died after it was doused in lighter fluid, set on fire
Dallas police said Friday night that an 18-year-old wanted in an attack on a puppy that died after it was doused in lighter fluid and set on fire had turned himself in.
News of the arrest came while several hundred North Texans were gathered for a candlelight vigil in memory of the dog, Justice. The master of ceremonies returned to the stage to announce the arrest, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Justice was burned alive April 2. Dallas police had issued a warrant for the arrest of 18-year-old Darius Ewing. He surrendered to police Friday night.
The dog died Sunday of complications from the third-degree burns that covered 70 percent of his body.
Witnesses told police Ewing doused the dog in lighter fluid and then threw a lit cigarette on him.
The Dallas County district attorneys office said it was thrilled to announce the arrest during the vigil for Justice.
The timing was great, said David Alex, a special prosecutor in the district attorney's office. Hopefully, a lot of it had to do with the pressure from the community to do the right thing."
Animal cruelty is a felony. If convicted, Ewing faces two to 10 years in prison.
For all you “cop kills dog” lovers ... no cops were involved in the death of the dog.
Darius? Oh, that tell-tale name MUST mean he is a white redneck. Yeah, right.
“Darius? Oh, that tell-tale name MUST mean he is a white redneck. Yeah, right.”
Darius? Can’t be right, only republicans like Dick Cheney Kill Puppies
Does someone claim all dogs that are killed are done some by police officers?
Don’t even need to ask what color the violent criminal is...
Right. Only right-wing, evil people hate and kill puppies. There certainly could not be any just-plain-evil, sub-human, degenerate (”minority”!) vegetables who are not Republican!
To some on this site ... yes. That is why I launched a preemptive strike.
Was he auditioning to be a white house chef?
Obama: “Are you uh...gonna eat that?”
Stories like this make me sick at heart. Anyone who does this is just plain evil.
Let the punishment fit the crime.
I’ll pay for the gas.
Not Huckabee’s son again.
God forbid that you and I ever get absolute control of the justice system....LOL
Can I join you...pretty please?
I was just visiting the local no-kill shelter (we help with their fundraising) today, and played with the most adorable 4 month old “baby”...Beagle mix.
Typical puppy, wanted to play, give kisses, be loved on...oh...except for the GIGANTIC ROD sticking out of his hip. Seems he “fell down the steps” a few weeks ago and the vet “convinced” the owner to relinquish.
In the next room was a little 15 lb. terrier (two years old)...who has had a tough time finding a home because as a puppy she was thrown against the wall and her leg was badly broken. Seems she is having a bit of time trusting humans.
So, what time is the posse meeting up, again?
If I ever get utter control, you can ride shotgun.
[or machete/noose/Glock...whatever you prefer]
99% of my dogs have been rescues.
*Most* psychologically recovered but my oldest Ibizan still has “flashbacks” and lives with chronic anxiety, thinking that every loud noise is ‘another 2x4 being slammed across her crate with her trapped inside.
This, despite the fact that 9 of those years have been made as wonderful as possible for her, *here* and has never so much as seen the inside of a crate in all that time.
She simply cannot “forget”....:(
[her previous “owner” shuffled off her mortal coils a couple years ago *right* before the AKC was about to drop the hammer on her so there’s no possible retribution, there]
I “have a thing” for the wounded ones.
They always catch my heart fastest.
