No fan of the White Sox myself, but congrats to him. Was funny watching the coverage, this was at Safeco Field in Seattle, and you had folks rooting against their own home team so they can see a perfect game.
History in the making .... only the 21st in MLB history.

"On July 1, 1990, Hawkins pitched a no-hitter for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park but lost the game. "
I happened to see that one.

where was that heartbreaker last season?

Cool !
Phillip is a great kid and worked hard as an undergraduate at Rice. He pitched the winning game in the College World Series for the Owls.
My son and he roomed together their first year at Sid Rich.

I always favor whoever is playing the Yankees and Notre Dame. Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?

But the New York Mets, celebrating 50 years of failing to have as no-hitter
Wow. My dad is a Mets fan, and I grew up remembering him complaining about M. Donald Grant and the talent they traded away. I figured that Tom Seaver would have had at least one No-Hitter. Jon Matlack? Jerry Koosman? What?! At least Nolan Ryan had one, though that was AFTER leaving the Mets.
I guess I'm spoiled growing up a Dodger fan. The occasional no-hitter was kind of expected in those glory years.

Yes. I saw it this afternoon. Amazing! Humber thanked God and said he was blessed. Thanked his teammates for playing a great game as well. He and his wife are expecting a baby and he dedicated the game to his wife. Born in Nacadoches and now lives in Tyler.

21st perfect game in MLB history...should have been the 22nd, but for Jim Joyce's bad call depriving Armando Galarraga of a perfect game on June 2, 2010.
I hadn't heard of Phil Humber before. Is he Senate material? He's 29 now but will be 30 before the next session of Congress convenes. The Senate has been perfect-game-pitcher-free since Jim Bunning left.

He certainly comes across as a very good man in his post game interviews. Very humble, no pun intended and also seems like a very committed Christian.
Congrats to him, his family and the White Sox.
Also, the Mariners fans were very classy.
To: mountn man
Typical White Sox fan. My favorite team is the Cubs but I never root against the White Sox - unless they are playing the Cubs.

You watched the coverage? It was unbearable. FOX can go take a leap. (I only watched the first four innings, and then had to go to work).

Tomkat and Crosscutsaw,
Thanks for the posts, especially the nice picture of Humber. I agree that the statements he made after the game were classy. He didn't talk about himself except to say he overthrew a bit in the 9th. Everything else he said was about his teammates and their great play.
Good to see this in today's world.
BTW, the situation with Armando Galarraga was classy also in a sort of twisted way. The ump and Galarraga both handled a bad deal with more grace and courage than I think I could have.
