Government educational programs that exclude boys

Posted on 05/01/2012 12:58:50 PM PDT by reaganaut1

I have noticed a few times that some educational programs funded by the Federal government market themselves in a way to discourage boys from applying, even when they are eligible. NASA G.I.R.L.S is one example. The title and web site obviously discourage boys from applying, but the actual requirements just say "U.S. citizen" and grades 5-8.

I guess they'd like to bar boys from participating but can't do so legally. I think I'll have my son, who is interested in astronomy, apply just to piss them off.

If the Republicans had guts or brains, they would stop federal funding for educational programs that discriminate against boys or girls.

It’s not just education and not just government. For instance, my workplace has a “boot camp” program that caters specifically to women. Men are allowed to go, but it deals with a lot of female-based exercises and more feminine activities such as yoga and Pilates.

I went to one such boot camp session, I was the only man, and apparently several women complained that I was there. I never touched any of them and was nothing but respectful. I was asked not to come back, and when challenging them, I was told, “If you want one for men, start one yourself.” Our corporate office disbanded the program and I became a pariah because I complained about discrimination. I had a chuckle because they actually termed it “reverse sexual discrimination” on the form. That was another battle for another day.

OH! AND go to ANY college in the nation and ask to see “the scholarship book.” Talk about a mindfsck! Thousands of scholarships for minorities, left-handed students, redheads, blacks, Asians, Indians, Chinese, African nationals, and women. Read the fine print on 99% of them and they say that ANYONE can apply.

I can’t tell you how many scholarship rejection letters I got in college. Had to have numbered over 500.

Guys aren’t as malleable to the system. They’re very liable to tell a bureaucrat to eff off when asked to complete a paperwork detail. Women will always fill out the paperwork.
Just my HO...of course

The Diversity and Outreach Committee of our local Dept of Agriculture Research Station is having a day to get girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) on Thursday. We are bringing our entire Cub Scout Pack.

I like crashing parties.

Would anyone really send their son or daughter into a government “education” program by choice? The last thing I would ever do. This government mails free condoms to 11 year olds, why should I trust them with anything relating to children?

Look you know what they are up too, I know what they are up too but in this case they made the loophole themselves.

“I guess they’d like to bar boys from participating but can’t do so legally. I think I’ll have my son, who is interested in astronomy, apply just to piss them off. “

but...but...but...my boy “THINKS” he is a girl so he should be allowed to attend!

Problem solved.

I will LMAO.

Look at any recent astronomy or physics text book and a 100% of the time, an astronaut going to the moon or riding a rocket at 99 percent of speed of light the will be a “she” while the observer on the ground will be a “he”.

Not in my Engineering Lectures.

You see, I can control what wacked out things are said in college classrooms - because I'm saying them.

I could never imagine that this crap has anything to do with the people who write the books.

I’m kind of a science groupie who I picks up astronomy and space-time physics books in book stores, so I see this stuff. I’ve come to assume that every educational book publishing company has a bee hive of numb-nuts censors making standard political, gender, and racial corrections.
