ANYBODY'S COMPUTER EVER...

ANYBODY'S COMPUTER EVER...

given you this message before, without warning:

"shutting down to install updates 1 of 3"

AND no option to opt out or postpone or to save what you are currently working on? Mine recently did that. I think we've all seen those funny vids of really angry people smashing their computer in their cubicle. I have never done that but when a stupid piece of * vista machine did this to me, I was VERY close to smashing it to pieces.

Vista prompts you to reboot and offers to postpone for 15 minutes to 4 hours. However there is an option to disable this. If that option is enabled then the computer reboots automatically. I enabled that option once to get rid of prompts altogether, but of course that's not how Microsoft decided it's going to work. From their point of view you are an attachment to their computer, and whatever else you might be doing is totally irrelevant compared to the wonders of some 27 updates (of which exactly zero make any difference in your particular case.)

Download an install CD for Xubuntu Linux. Never have that happen again.

Vista really does suck.

It’s called Windows Updates and Automatic Updates is turned on by default. They give you the means to turn if off, but you have decided to leave yours on.

I have Vista Home Premium and several minutes ago it gave me a warning about updates with an option to postpone. I postponed.

Not to offend, but pay the money. My early model IIgs (remember them?) still boots. In fact, the only Apple product I’ve owned that no longer boots is the evil Umax clone...Jobs forgive me for cheaping out 1 time!

“This is almost enough to drive me to paying Jobs’s extortion money for a mac.”

No, don’t waste good money, just install Linux instead. When I inherited a new Dell computer loaded with Vista Ultimate, I immediately installed Ubuntu Linux instead.
