I don’t recall the book or chapter but it was a story about the Baconites.

Mayo on a BLT? Barf!

Slap some mustard on that bread and now you’re talkin’.

LOL. Hellman’s mayo.

“Bring out the Hellman’s, and bring out the best”.

Mayo is one thing that I will NOT buy a store brand. I don’t know what Hellman’s does, but the difference is huge.

LOL, MW is fine on a simple sandwich, but will overpower the complex flavors of a work of art sandwich, IMO.

He said he'd also share the Howell's money with me and not to worry they'd have separate bed rooms at the estate. I think I should be a little worried that he's thought this out so thoroughly!

BTW, you mentioned Texas Sheet Cake! I haven't had that in 20 years, my Aunt used to make it! mmmmm I'll have to call her daughter for her recipe!

I dislike mayonnaise, but I serously have a burning hatred for Miracle Whip. My mom LOVES the stuff and put it on every sandwich while I was growing up. In fact she used to make Miracle Whip (only) sandwiches. I’m throwing up a bit just thinking about it.

We MUST be long lost soul mates.

My mom slathered mayo on everything but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when I was a kid. I suppose I didn't mind it too much until I was about seven or eight, but around that time, my taste buds changed, and the stuff became utterly gross to me. I can get a gag reflex just smelling the stuff.

Mom also loves Miracle Whip. I have no idea why, and can't tell the stuff from regular mayo. All of it grosses me out. I won't use anything but mustard on meat sandwiches, but I will use mayo in tuna salad. Strangely, I can eat it that way with no trouble. Probably the fish drowns out the taste, is my guess.

I laughed out loud about the Miracle Whip (only) sandwiches! Too funny!

***If you were to make the best BLT in the world tonight, what would you use? ***

MUSTARD! Mayo, with some sweet pickle relish, is for egg sandwiches and fried fish.

Mustard on Hot Dogs, Ketchup on Hamburgers, just as God intended.

I cringe when I see someone put Ketchup on a Hot Dog, but I am a native New Yorker. I hear they perform that sacrilege in Chicago though. I'm sure it's one of Obama’s favorites, like Marxism.

Mayonnaise can and should go on both.

He sounds like a real keeper! Been a while for me also on the Texas sheet cake...I don’t do sweets anymore, but I have to tell ya, Miracle Whip is pretty sweet compared to Mayo...Maybe that’s the key???

My nickname is “mayonnaise mom” and my husband, “mayonnaise dad.” I grew up on Miracle Whip. My sister had a screaming, rage, fit about how much mayo I ate. I gave it up in my teens because of the calories. My husband is a Best/Hellman’s man. I tend to buy what’s on sale. Couldn’t get the Miracle Whip out of the fridge fast enough. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I prefer homemade, but when we go through about a jar a week...just don’t have the time, plus the salmonella issue. My daughter has been on a BLT binge and protests that I don’t put enough mayo on her sandwiches. I just want a jar to last more than a week. LOL. I try to always have at least 6 jars on hand.

Obviously our Moms hated us. Mine bought that stuff, too....that horrible orange Sandwich Spread.

Oh man, you're cracking me up. I remember that stuff. I think my mom experimented on us one time with that. It was an utter failure. Out of five school aged kids, only my little sister liked it. Us boys just went hungry. Couldn't get it down to save our lives. LOL

That could be it minus the double layers... Somehow the taste is really good in a cookie pan.

Hellmans! Even the great chef and food writer, Julia Child, preferred good old American Hellmans Mayo to the home made French mayonnaise.
Actually, if you are going to serve something right after making, Hellmans Light at half the calories works just fine. If something is going to be made in advance, refigerated and stand a while, like Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, etc, I use the regular Hellmans. It doesn’t separate over time.
So, for the best BLT I use Hellmans Light.

"Mustard on Hot Dogs, Ketchup on Hamburgers, just as God intended. "

Yes, that's a New Yorker thing...My hubby from New York married a southern raised girl..I've learned to overcome those native New Yorkers with mixing it up a little. That's why I use Miracle Whip and Mayo mixed together and deny that I've ever heard of the MW.
