A baby robin is spending some quality time with some friendly cats in southwestern Michigan.

MLive.com reports Karin Caston's cats have accepted the bird, named Peeps, since she found it about two weeks ago in her yard in Allegan County's Otsego Township, 35 miles south of Grand Rapids.

The bird lives in a cage, but spends time nestled in the fur of two of Caston's cats or perched on their backs. A third cat lets the bird walk around it.

I hope he’s happy and healthy, and that the kittehs were rewarded for those looks of martyred patience on their faces.

If looks could kill...A couple of those cat-glares from the story say,...*Just wait 'till he puts on a little more weight.* LOL.

Hand raising a baby bird is a grueling process...IIRC, from experience, they need to be fed every 15 minutes...now that's time consuming. Plus you run into the danger that the bird has been imprinted and may not fear humans or catz.

'Round these parts you'd be in big trouble with the DEP, if you weren't a registered bird rehab person, and were in the possession of a wild bird....good intentions or not.

I don’t understand why she put the bird into a cage. When I found a baby robin in my back yard, I assumed it came from the nest under my deck. They have to leave the nest to learn how to fly; that woman was interfering with the natural process by caging the bird.

This brings back memories of my Jr high school days. My borhter and I found a baby robin, took it home, fed it, cared for it all summer. That bird was spoiled, as it got bigger and started to fly, it would peck at the sliding glass door and beg for meatballs. We would also go the garden and turn over a shovel of dirt and be amazed at how many worms he would pick out. We could call that bird from anywhere and he would fly down and land on our finger. Taught us a lot about animals that has stuck with both of us for life.
