Police and federal agents raid Charlotte home by mistake
WHEC (Rochester, NY) ^ | June 16, 2012 | Amanda Ciavarri

ochester police and federal agents made a mistake in Charlotte this week that has one woman baffled and frightened. She wants to know how they could mistake her house for one they were supposed to raid in a drug bust.

“I was sitting in my living room texting on my phone and I heard somebody come in my back door. I didn't realize at the time what they were saying, but ultimately they were yelling out A-T-F, A-T-F.”

Nancy Dominicos says what happened next at her home on Tiernan Street Wednesday night is almost unbelievable.

“I thought it was a family member pulling a joke on me. And all of the sudden I looked up and they were in my dinning room pointing a loaded gun at me telling me they had a federal warrant to search my premises.”

Dominicos says she kept telling the three ATF agents this wasn't right. They told her they were searching for narcotics and asked if anyone else was home. She said her adult son was upstairs and that's when this story almost turned tragic.

“My son had heard me arguing with this man and it was not a voice he'd recognize. My son is a hunter, he put a bullet in the chamber of his gun. They heard that, they yelled down long gun, at that point there he told another ATF agent that was with me, handcuff her and take her out,” Dominicos said.

Thankfully Dominicos' son recognized it was law enforcement and put the gun down right away. Dominicos says the handcuffs caused bruises and as she was going outside with an ATF agent she heard him say they had the wrong house. The ATF and Rochester police executed a number of search warrants Wednesday night. Police sent us a statement, saying they entered the home through an unlocked side door and quote:

"Upon encountering an elderly resident, the team realized that they were at the wrong location at that time and left the premises."

Officers then searched the correct house down the street.

Dominicos says the whole event plays over and over in her mind,

“I'm still terrified. It's almost like a P.T.S.D. experience, you keep hearing things. You think oh my God I hear a door slam, I hear someone pulling into my driveway. I see a light it's like oh my God are they back?”

"How could they make that mistake, how could they make that mistake?”

It’s sad that one attempts to defend breaking and entering, when government employees are breaking multiple laws and committing multiple felonies.

Are you concerned that your own felonies committed against law-abiding citizens will come to light if you do not speak in defense of your “brethren”?

Worried you might be retaliated against for “snitching” on government employees?

As I have said before ... if someone is breaking into your house ... order a pizza. The pizza delivery guy will help you.

If you say, I will get my gun and shoot the intruder, remember; in most states gun ownership is restricted. Besides, most Americans have been brainwashed to the point that they will not have a gun in the house. Why ... because the don’t believe in them (often quoted on TV police dramas).

“Thankfully Dominicos’ son recognized it was law enforcement and put the gun down right away.”

Otherwise, he’d have been dead and the murderers would never face justice.

"They all belong in prison, along with the toads that(fail to) supervise them."

Use the same game plan they have - make them famous. Arrest the the lackeys, roll them by threatening or taking all their families' possessions and future livelihood, then move up the food chain to "the big fish".

Take away the pensions of the big fish, take them through a media gauntlet in handcuffs (perp walk), make a reality TV program based on big fish in a turbulent jail pond, then use the infamy to goad the big fish into doing their job properly - keeping the frikin' peace.

This is no less harsh than what's happening every day to innocent families across the nation.

ATF are not cops, they are federal bureaucrats with automatic weapons.

Yes, because we, the public, would rather a few criminals get away, and keep our civil liberties, than live with this ever-expanding police state. If you are worried about not getting condemned for this type of behavior, then you should rally against it along with the rest of us and help us end it. We are not about to find it acceptable any time soon.

Besides, most Americans have been brainwashed to the point that they will not have a gun in the house.

Then why have civilian law enforcement been militarized?

No, they are cops with a federal mandate. Just like the State police are cops with a state mandate. Just like local police are cops with a city or county mandate.

I can plug some info into my nav system in my SUV, and have it guide me halfway across the country to the front door of a place I’ve never been before. There is NO excuse for something like this happening with the police. I hope she sues their asses off.

Why are we sending out militarized groups of police to raid homes for “narcotics” anyway? Is there are shortage of ‘real’ criminals to go after in Charlotte? This drug prohibition of ours must end. We haven’t learned a dammed thing from the 1920s.

It is so sad how much the average citizen hates the police,

Because so many average citizens have run across lying, power tripping people with badges that leave a bad taste in their mouth.

Stereotypes don't spring out of nowhere.

I don't agree with the posters trying to assert this a 'burglary', etc., but I do see the War on Drugs as worse than the impact of drugs themselves. I often wonder how long it will take to shift toward more sane, and less exacerbating, policies with respect to drug use.

Bullcrap. They are bureaucrats more concerned about justifying their budget increases to Congress than upholding the Constitution.

"It is so sad how much the average citizen hates the police, yet 911 is the most called phone number in the US."

Maybe 911 should be used for life threatening emergencies, not because someone didn't get enough mayo on their sandwich... just sayin...

As for the "hate", it seems the hate is coming from the other direction. Citizens are routinely disrespected, needled, gouged, threatened, and attacked by their employees who seem to have an addiction themselves - to adrenaline - and unlimited resources, immunity, and early retirement.

Here is the basis for bad mouthing cops on this Board (IMHO): Because you and all other cops and ex-cops on here will not admit cops do wrong things, overstep their bounds, shoot dogs unnecessarily, sometimes kill the wrong people, break into the wrong houses more and more, etc. You act like cops are perfect and should get a pass on every mistake they make because they are cops.

What about serving the public? Cops need to punish other cops when those cops make mistakes or break the law. But that hardly ever happens. Cops just circle the wagons.
Get your brothers to follow the law and see that they get punished when they don’t. Then cops will be more respected.

“Because so many average citizens have run across lying, power tripping people with badges that leave a bad taste in their mouth.”

Not only that, but if you’ve ever tried to report any kind of police misconduct, there’s not a single cop outside of IA who will help you. Quite a few will take the opportunity to pile more abuse on you.

The “few bad apples” excuse doesn’t work when all the other apples protect the bad ones.

“If you say, I will get my gun and shoot the intruder, remember; in most states gun ownership is restricted.”

Couldn’t be more wrong if you tried...and perhaps you are trying. In reality with the exception of a handful of
states gun ownership is virtually unrestricted aside from the stupid useless BATFEces prohibitions regarding full auto etc.

Since you are so so so so so wrong on something as easy to research and be accurate on as the point mentioned it’s quite obvious that your opinions and statements on all other subjects are dubious...at best.

I guess we can grant you the monicker of “boot licker du jour”.

There ought to be a bond program required of law enforcement. You want to go and search a house....post a $5 million dollar bond. You screw up....you lose the bond immediately. It’ll come out of your budget. It’ll only take one screw-up for a town council to start asking questions and fire the people at the top for not managing things the right way.
