Probably because the Russians are quite famous for killing millions of their own people. They’re still doing it to this very day. But Japan is a civilized country and ought to know better, and not a backward hellhole like Russia or China.

But if the whale hunting is not illegal, then my anger is abated. But, whales are noble animals, and I would not hurt one the same way I would never hurt a dog. It’s a barbaric practice, which would explain why they allegedly do it for scientific purposes instead of for eating or using their powdered bones for crackpot Asian medicine.

A whale is a mammal, just like a cow, or a deer, or even a dog (in certain cultures) which man sometimes chooses to eat.

Even though I, for instance, would never eat a dog, I would not impulsively criminalize the practice by those human carnivores who don't share my opinion.

As long as it wasn't endangering the species outright, I'd eat gator meat, and I'd eat whale meat...

Let the Japanese harvest their own whales. While it is legal they should do the work if they want the whales.

There is no reason to hunt for whales. Not for food, oil, or any other reason. But if it is still legal to do so, pirates should NOT be boarding their ships or harassing them on the open sea.
