Google is a great resource, as are other search engines.

The best thing about them is that they don’t insult you or call you names when you ask something.

I’m so sorry I misused the word geek. Doesn’t it also mean someone who is really interested in certain things/pursuits?

There are comic book geeks,sci-fi geeks,gaming geeks,etc.

That is what I took it to mean;someone who is very much into something. That’s all.

I was just curious as to what any experts here would say on the subject. Why is that so bothersome?

It’s a fascinating topic.

I’m interested from hearing from scientists and the Internet does not always give me the answers I’m looking for.

1) I’m a she,not a he

2) I am not a narcissist;far from it.

3) I did not grow up with my father

4) I hate Captain Crunch

5) I’m ill-mannered when people make a mountain of of a molehill.

6) Isn’t this “making it personal”?

7) You don’t know me. You don’t know anything about me.

I have not been in the seventh grade for some time now.

You are being a dick.

Yeah,I said it twice.

Think of what happens when you throw a baseball towards a batter. The baseball will quickly fall towards the earth. The faster you throw it, the farther it goes. Imagine that you can throw it so fast (18,000 mph, or so) that it falls at the same rate as the earth's curvature. It keeps falling, but it never gets any closer to the earth. You have just launched it into orbit.

One problem is that air resistance will slow it down, so it will quick;y come crashing down again. However, if you can get it up high enough, where there is no air, there will be little to slow it down, so it will stay in orbit indefinitely. The faster it goes, the higher its orbit will be.

To get it back down, you simply have to slow it down. The astronauts use "retro rockets", rockets that point in the reverse direction of travel so that they actually make it go slower.

With few exceptions they are not brought back to earth....they get back to earth when they can no longer maintain an orbit and come crashing down to earth!!

He’s asking a question. If you are bothered by that all you have to do is not respond. He certainly doesn’t need you rant.

Again, kudos to you for responding and again, I’m just saying why it’s not a surprise that you caught a lot of flak.

By the way, you did receive several answers, including one from me. Did you thank anybody?

And by the way, I don’t think anybody was “bothered”. They were just laughing at you.

And by the way, although the word ‘geek’ does not have a hard-and-fast meaning, to say in the same post “I am a science geek” and “how do satellites work” is immediately amusing to anyone with even a passing knowledge of what goes on on Internet forums.

How do satellites work?

Before we begin, would you move your coffee away from the keyboard? We're all worried you're about to spill it. That's better.

Now about how satellites work...

No shame in being older and still wanting to seek knowledge.

I'm approaching 69 and retired from a 40 year career in engineering. I continue to learn new science every day. I feel that when you stop learning is when you start dieing.

“Ir mijer-se um mastro de bandeira!
That’s Portugues.”

I did and this was the answer:

As usual, it made no sense. Sounds like to me that you’re just acting like a blowhard again, as before!

Yes, the orbital plane can be any inclination to the equatorial plane and can be circular or any variation of ellipse.

You need to spend some quality time playing Kerbal Space Program.

Apparently you’ve learned nothing from this (at least nothing useful going forward), and the teachable moment was a failure. At this point, though, I’m not surprised.
