I also think “cock-sure” isn’t a helpful term in this case.

Barry Switzer has more class in his little pinky than Paterno, ok so he likes to say “Hell” and “Damn” a lot.

And to those of you who are so cock-sure of how you would react in any given situation, it is with trepidation that I say: I hope you get the chance to find out. Based on your treatise and this quote, I wonder if your moral compass isn't quite pointed North....

They were obsessed defenders. That is typical troll behavior. They sign up just after something like this breaks, make a few replies and start threads defending the action.

Nope, that was well after Magic graduated. By all accounts it would have been out of character anyway. I went to OSU and was in one of the "jock" dorms my freshman year so I do know about the "special" status star athletes have at a big program school.
But if any of them had been known serial child rapists I find it hard to believe it would have been allowed to continue and for years on end. I once had very deep respect for Joe Paterno and the PSU football program. The disgust with Sandusky is one thing but how everybody at PSU and in State College who knew what was happening conducted themselves (and continue to if this vanity post is any indication) is appalling.

I am a school nurse in TX and in TX and I believe in most states it is a state law for those who are working in an enviorment with children to report abuse.....personally, I don’t need a law to tell me that, I would do that on my own

Nope. Johnson and his Indianan rival, Larry Bird, graduated in 1979.

I barely knew who Joe Paterno was before this scandal. But even before Paterno's personal involvement became clear I noticed something about his fans. They practically worshipped him. And even though he may have done some good things, the degree of admiration seemed out of all proportion. I noticed people making him out to be one of the greatest human beings who ever lived. He was a football coach and mainly influenced the world of football and Penn State University. That's it. This is like one of those situations where a charismatic leader just hypnotizes people and when his faults start becoming clear they can't accept it.
Sometimes people do good things and terrible things.

The same thing occured to me. We were talking about this in the office yesterday.

I hate all athletic programs in all colleges. I think colleges should focus on academics, but that is probably crazy talk in the eyes of the willfully blind. This is a case where the chickens came home to roost. Athletic programs have forever trumped a good education for the 'student' athletes, but now Athletic programs trump any crime committed by successful coaches and their staff. Absolutely agree.
For my money, I say Penn State (and Syracuse) are probably the tip of the iceberg of what goes on in these "programs." Maybe it's not all pedophilia, but there's no doubt in my mind that all sorts of criminal and immoral activity is given a free pass for the "glory of the athlete." Like anything else -- follow the money.

I can’t imagine what it was like living with this flase reputation of honor like Paterno, while all the time greasing the skids to a homosexual boy rapist to rape boys. How dishonorable can a coach of young men be than to abet a boy rapist to carry on his evil of destroying boys?
It is similar to Cardnal Law playing the part of representing Christ while playing the part of madam by giving access to all those homo pedophiles raping little boys in church.
You can not get any more low down and sleazy and evil than this. Some people don’t understand the depth of suffering and destruction that comes to a boy who has been raped by a manipulative homo. This ignorace does not excuse the crime.

I enjoy watching football, but it is just a game. I agree that colleges have gotten carried away with their football programs. It is definitely taken too seriously.

My wife and I happened to have dinner tonight with another couple; he was a Penn State grad (played varsity baseball for them) and was deeply ashamed of his school and JoPa. If he wasn't I probably would have left the table. Consider that I am leaving the table that you're seated at.
Your reality testing is dreadful...consider if your son was butt-raped by that pervert and Joe covered up for him for 14 years. Does that bring it home?
