A grammar Nazi? What grammar? The author said it was staged. They don’t even know what the word means. That has nothing to do with grammar.

It seems I completely misunderstood the author's idea. I took staged to mean "a planned event," i.e. The killer did not act alone, but was part of something bigger, etc -- admittedly not the most common meaning of the word, which would be more like "enacted," i.e. like Dick Cheney planted the explosives in the World Trade Center or the Moonshot really happened on a soundstage.
I was clearly behind the curve on this. And for the record, I find the idea of this being "staged" to be absurd.
