Stressed Men Prefer Heavier Women: Study

Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but stressed men prefer heavier women -- at least according to a new study.

In this study, published Wednesday in the journal PLoS ONE, researchers at the University of Westminster in London subjected 41 men to a stress-inducing task. After this task, the researchers asked the men to rate the attractiveness of female bodies ranging from emaciated to obese.

Compared to a control group of 40 men who did not undergo the stress task, the stressed men rated a significantly heavier female body size as the most attractive, and they rated heavier female bodies as more attractive in general.

"Our body size preferences are flexible and can be changed by environment and circumstance," explains Martin Tovee, one of the study's authors. "We need to understand the factors shaping body preferences."

My guess is that fatter women are lower maintenance

Men like heavier women, as we’ve all known like forever, and women like skinny women.

It’s just nice to have a woman that looks like a woman, rather than like a sickly little boy.

More likely that heavier women are more likely to survive when food is scarce (the original stress). It’s hard to get away from biology.

That gets to the heart of all this prepper stuff we see on FR, and other places.

It seems that the best prepping would involve gaining as much weight as practical....fat is easy to store energy that no one can steal from you.

Pretty women don’t lead to stress; they’re all chubby and comfey, which reduces stress.

No, except for making all those skinny, ugly dames feel better when they read it.

If you think you’re old at 66, how are you going to feel at 96?

With the exception of the occasional bomb landing in my lap (metaphorically speaking), I’ve got a rather low stress life.

That being said, I have always found women who could be described as Curvy or Rubenesque much more attractive than girls in the sub 140 lb category.

Little women just don’t do it for me.

Women are what they think men want. They gather together in Gaggles and plot, “What does that Big Hunk want and How do I conform to his norms?”

The best looking women had the “American Look”, and then degenerated. Remember all relationships are about breeding.

Are you 96? If so, good job! Hope I make it to 96, feeling reasonably okay. So far, not really hurting anywhere all that much.

I was making small talk with an old navy vet at a store once and the subject turned to women.

He related that “If you go ugly early, you’ll always have a date”.

“. . . I want to die with a happy tummy!”

Hey! Let’s LIVE with a happy tummy! - It just hit me at 66, as I said - I WANT TO ENJOY MY FOOD AND FORGET IT! . . AND BE MYSELF I might add. I’m NOT a glutton, and have hurt my metabolism trying to be sure and not EMBARRASS my husband . . who, incidentally weighed upwards toward 270 lbs. all those years he sort of “pitchforked” me about it. - I’ll never forget the evening several years ago when he made me sit at a nice restaurant and watch his skinny cousin eat a rich dessert, reminding me that you don’t need that! I’M DONE punishing myself because I’m not in the 3 percent of people who are just naturally “in fashion” right now.

It’s true to a point. Skinny people die first in times of famine.

I couldn't agree more. When I met my wife she weighed 135lb, and at 6', that wasn't much. In my not so humble opinion in this case, as mine is the only opinion that counts when it comes to her, she looks much better at 160.
