I have a weed in my yard, red sorrel, aka sheep sorrel.
Pain in the rear. It sends it’s roots everywhere and sprouts from the roots, you practically have to dig up your yard and totally sterilize it to get rid of it.
But it is edible! The fresh leaves have a distinct lemony, citrus like flavor, it is fairly high in Vitamin C, folic acid, and 4 or 5 other critical nutrients.
So I’m torn about digging iy out and trying to destroy it and just leaving it...
I had to look it up and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. We live in the desert and it prefers moist, acidic soil and we have dry alkaline soil so it probably doesn’t grow here.
A few years ago, at a church potluck, I HAD to find out who made the great-tasting “spinach”.
She led me around the side of the church and showed me....lambsquarters!
It really is that good.
