@nbcnightlynews : MT @chucktodd: Romney now officially calls on Akin to exit the race. He had been implying that, but hadn't directly said it. Now, he has

And as a result others seriously thinking about sitting this one out so they won’t be associated with the idiot GOP who were dumb enough to get involved.
Yeah... you got a point there...
Republicans seem to be treating the election like it’s in the bag and we have wiggle room to spare. The fact is, we don’t have room to spare. We need to win the races we can win, and not roll the dice on a guy that answered this abortion question so stunningly ineptly.
The last time conservatives were preening and counting their chickens before they hatched was just a short while ago with Obamacare and the Supreme Court. We know how that turned out.
Nobody quite falls on their arse like self assured Republicans. It’s astonishing.
And Huckabee tipped the race to Aikin in the primaries. Thanks for screwing up yet another election, Huck.
Pretty easy to say, "That's for the good people of Missouri to decide."
Romney should just leave it alone.
Was what Akin said about “legitimate” rape stupid? Absolutely. That said, hiis intent was merely to defend the lives of unborn children. Children conceived of rape are innocent persons deserving of the right to life. They should not pay for the crimes of their fathers. The liberals are making him out to be the bad guy when their abortion policies have led to the deaths of 55 MILLION unborn children and counting.
The only thing a president can do to impact abortion is appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade. No such justice will ever be approved w/o a senate majority.
Once again the GOP and RNC totally blow this opportunity and continue to let the DNC, Obama, the Media and ALL the Communist operatives in this country continue to set the operational tempo.
They need to fully focus on McCaskill and the myriad of problems she has.
This is the same exact approach Obama used to get himself elected originally to IL senate.
Until we stand up to their dishonest techniques and prove they can’t win with them...they will continue to do this crap.
Conservatives are supposed to have principles...
That's the best answer. There seems to be a large negative reaction building over all the calls for Akin to pull out. He might have said something idiotic, but he is THEIR idiot, by golly!
That’s pretty much what my neighbor just said.
When he goes to Washington, he becomes OUR idiot.
Thats up to Missouri to decide.
That’s the correct answer for everyone in The Stupid Party.
Imagine being raped and getting pregnant. Akin would doubt that the rape occurred. That's pretty sick and completely re-traumatizes and re-victimizes that rape victim for the rest of her life.
And the mother-to-be may more likely then abort the child out of her obvious complicit "guilt" in the crime.
Aside from that I'm hearing Akin now just being so arrogant in general to Hannity.
He's gotta go. The more I hear from him the LESS I like this man, his lack of objectivesness, and his limited capacity for good judgement.
This man can't see the forest for his priceless pretty pear tree...and he parses and pushes.
I’m CEO of a company. EVERY issue of my “employees” that affects my business is . . . MY business. This is Romney’s business, esp if this dunderhead costs us the senate and makes it difficult to fix Obama’s mess.
Time for people to stop making excuses, explanations, and the like and WIN THE BALL GAME.
Well stated.
Go Mitt. Kick this guy's @$$ out of Missouri.
Aiken only has another hour to drop out according to the law.
I agree, LS.
There were a lot of “P”’s in that last sentence...
If FR now populated mostly by idiots?
Look, I HATE abortion, and would go to nearly any length to see it ended, but we MUST face the facts here!
THERE IS NOTHING a senator can do about it! In fact, there is VERY LITTLE a President can do about it - it was found to be a constitutional right by the USSC! All the President can do is appoint Original Constructionists to the USSC and wait for a case that would overturn Roe v. Wade to come up .
For that to happen we MUST have a President that will appoint Original Constructionist jurists AND a Senate that will confirm them!
Idiot Akin just gave the left a target and a huge talking point that will haunt the entire GOP thru election day!
Like it or not, too many Americans support abortion “rights” and WILL NOT vote for an idiot that says what Aiken said.
We HAVE to win the November battle BEFORE we can take on the wider war on abortion, homosexual “mainstreaming”, etc.
QUIT using your beloved principles to insure that the right LOSES!
“Why is Romney lowering himself to speak on this issue that Missouri needs to hash out?”
Because the master of divinity is making an ass of himself. If people can’t bring themselves to vote for the dim bulb, they might tar the rest of the GOP as being just as stupid as he. There’s no reason Romney should have to deal with this guys nutty theory 75 more times, and in every debate. So he has dealt with it. If anyone accuses him of believing that women can repel enemy kamikaze sperm, he can say “I don’t agree with that nut Akins, and never have, not once”.
Romney would like to win MO, even if we are going to lose the senate seat.
As of the posting of this reply, Todd Akin has the better part of an hour yet....
But sometimes ego knows no bounds. He keeps hearing these voices saying, “Stay the course, boy!”
Most of them inside his own head.
“I would have just condemned his stupid remarks. I am not sure how an open call for his resignation helps.”
It makes it almost impossible to successfully hang Akins stupidity around his neck.
Good. The more Republicans of all stripes, from RINOs to Tea Partiers, repudiate him, the better chance we get to repeal ObamaCare.
Stupidity on Romney’s part. He’s going to disenfranchise Akin voters over a silly gaffe.
“Woman and children can afford to be careless, but not men.”
Vito Corleone
“It’s not personal. It’s strictly business.”
Michael Corleone
“Never tell anyone outside of the family what you’re thinking again.”
Romney has already lost a lot of us conservatives. Except for St Louis, people in Missouri are very, very conservative. They do not like being told what to do, especially from those who think we are just serfs. This move is making a lot of true conservatives really angry. Mark my words, romney just made the biggest mistake of his presidency.
Akins is the stupid one. A silly gaffe for a Dem is a lethal blow to a GOPer.
Akins is going to disenfranchise GOP voters nationally, because his stupid words reveal not only that he’s a loose cannon, but that the GOP is powerless to control their loose cannons. This has undermined confidence in the GOP across the country ... All for the ego of one aging, out of touch wienie.
He tried to be decent about this and give Akin the chance to back out gracefully. But he dug in. Now Mitt had no choice.
CORRECTION:

UBERFAIL, Mittens. Nice. It's possible that your petty crap has lost the November election.
I’m glad the GOP can’t control every elected politician since the GOP has a tendacy to pick squishy RINO’s.
Its the squishy GOP the reason gaffes made by Conservatives are leathal.
“Hes going to disenfranchise Akin voters over a silly gaffe.”
“58 states” is a gaffe. Stupidity is not. Akin is as stupid as Patty Murray, but he doesn’t have the Press covering for him. And meanwhile, every Democrat will try to cut the throat of every Republican over this.
I think you’re projecting.
When did conservatives in any state start admiring stupidity?
Akin is a poster boy for term limits.
You said it so much better than I. Great post.
What if by staying in the race McCaskill keeps her Senate seat and the GOP fails to get a majority ?
I’d say those are national implications.
Uh oh...I presumptuously pimped and paraded those poor persevering Percheron Ps again, didn’t I? I’m a P pestilent, huh, FSE? ;-)
I've had a sick feeling in my stomach today. I see this as a defining moment in the election; the Democrats know it and are absolutely and fanatically GLEEFUL right now. I am sick. It is over for us, and for the country.
When is the gop going to fight the dems instead of their own? They can destroy a conservative candidate with the help of there cohorts in the media, but they won't take on the left.
Thank you, EM.
I don’t think it’s over, but this has been pretty damaging.
Thanks to one man’s ego, we’re going to have to work a lot harder now.
It’s idiots like Akins that give “Conservatives” a bad name.
FUMR.
Akins ego trumps all else. MEEEEEE!!!!!!
You first, Willard.
I’m extremely upset by the meddling. I don’t curse, but today I do.
Missourians despise the meddling. There WILL be backlash.
