Did I see Obama’s bus trying to fit a victory into 46 percent?

Worked right there next to the bridge in Bright Leaf Square for a number of years. The average was just about 1 every other day. They finally put up a steel beam in front of the bridge with yellow and black warning tape with a light that starts flashing if the truck is too high as it approaches. They spent three days setting steel in concrete and erecting a beam detached from the bridge that would take the force of the blows from the trucks. The paint on the new warning system hadn’t even dried before the next truck came along and “WHAM!”... peeled back it’s top like a tin can.

Based on the demographics of the majority of the truck drivers, they probably should have put the warnings in Spanish. Just saying....

Back around the time of the Coolidge Administration, Grampa told the story of his partnership in a delivery truck.

His partner was driving the truck one day and came to a low overpass. (There are a fair number of those in Chicago because of the tremendous number of train tracks in the city back then.)

So the partner stopped, assessed the clearance situation, and decided he needed to let the air out of the tires to get under.

So they ended up with ruined tires and a busted truck top.
