Great news!

I’m not there, so I don’t know but if people in your area could supply the people in badly hit areas with water, canned food and dry clothing, that would be a Godsend for them. They are stuck, wet and hungry in dirty flood water, which I am sure you know already.

In the South, we have corporations and businesses and their employees who do this sort of rescue for disaster areas when necessary. Often they drop the stuff off at local churches and then the church volunteers get out and distribute it. They are big heros to the people they help. It only takes a day. Every little bit helps.

Anyway, I am so glad you are alright and have heat! God bless you. Thanks for checking in. :)

Western MA. We never lost power. Some decent winds, but we lost all of the weak limbs and trees last October during the snow storm.

Just north of CT, and they were still selling generators left and right in the East Hartford Cabellas this evening.

My cousin in Southern CT, has lost power and it wont be back for several days. She got whacked three times last year, and now this year. Fun times.

I’m on high ground in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. It’s mostly fallen branches that I’ve seen. I’m low on gasoline. The closest gas stations were empty.

Prayers sent for those with terrible losses.

Could you consolidate that list at some point? Otherwise, they’re scattered among hundreds of posts and it’s pretty time consuming to read all of them to make sure you didn’t miss any.

Surviving. Sharing our resources with our less fortunate loved ones. Looking at another week before restoration. Oak trees.

I’m fine, though the flood water/storm surge was less than a mile away from me, so we were lucky. If we had bad rain and the surge was a foot higher, the water would’ve been another mile up Ocean Parkway.

Now that I know my friends in Brooklyn are okay, I really need to get out to Long Island to help my friends out there.

Thanks for your concerns.

I’m OK here — my own neighborhood in Brooklyn is not coastal and therefore not badly affected. There are quite a few uprooted trees — some quite large, which showed the magnitude of the devastation — and some debris. At home Monday night I heard the wind roar and worried the windows would shatter. But they didn’t. My internet went down briefly, and a coffee pot that fell off the ledge was the biggest casualty.

Thank G-d I have water, gas & electricity. Never again will I take any of these for granted.

However, I do work in the part of Manhattan that was hit, so the past four days have been spent in Brooklyn exile. Here again, I’m luckier than most, as my company is paying for my days off (I don’t have to use sick or vacation time, either). The first day was somewhat fun to stay home & do my own thing, but afterwards guilt crept in. I at least tried to do some work from home on my PC.

I feel pretty helpless. The trains, which are only running partially, are my only viable means of transportation. And the campus building where I work has no power. To think my supervisor had wanted me to spend Sunday night there at the dorm — “in case the weather turns out less severe and you can open up the place,” she said. She truly is certifiable. As it is now, our 1,000 students are stuck in a 16-floor dorm without power or plumbing. Most are scrambling to find other places in Manhattan to stay, especially with the Jewish Sabbath approaching. Because of the gas shortage, the campus shuttle bus can only offer limited rides to safer areas. I wish now, working there Sunday (until 5:00), I had taken some of these girls home with me.

Manhattan must feel like 1960s Berlin, with the haves on the west (literally, the West Side had it easier) and the victims on the East. Truly a war zone — or something out of a zombie movie.

Central Bucks County. We’re good here. Only lost power for ~26 hours. We’re on the same grid as the township buildings and the local elementary school, so we go back up pretty quickly compared to a lot of areas around us. Many nearby communities are still not up and may not be up for a few more days.

Other than that, I’ve been busy with the chainsaw - - good for firewood for three years, at least.

Oh, and my wife asked me to research generators. Will do!

Union County, NJ here. I'm in one of the few locations that never lost power for more than a few seconds at a time during the storm. Many businesses around here have been opening over the last two days, but fuel is a problem and cars line up before dawn at any gas station that is rumored to be getting a new delivery of fuel.

All is OK here. I've got enough fuel in my two vehicles to last me about 7-10 days, and enough for to last for at least a week even though I haven't touched any of my dry/canned food supplies.
