Why “Mental Illness” is the Avenue to Gun Confiscation

New York’s new gun law requires that mental health professionals report any person they consider “likely to engage in conduct that would result in serious harm to self or others.” If they don’t report this concern, and if something happens involving this person such as a shooting, the mental health professional could face charges for not reporting the person’s behavior to law enforcement.

Obviously, this will lead to over-reporting, which is fine by state officials, because that means that’s more people they get to bar from ever owning a gun. The other effect however is that gun-owners will be refusing to ever set foot in a mental health professional’s office for fear that the doctor will misinterpret something they said or didn’t say as evidence of a tendency to commit a crime. And you know the doctor would report anything, even if it wasn’t true, because not reporting something puts them at risk of criminal charges should “something happen” involving one of their patients.

why anyone would go to a counselor or therapist as opposed to a priest I will never know. They have done more to damage the fabric of our society than divorce has, because they are the ones who live in la la land where you can create a new family or marriage on your own steam whether God likes it or not.

Didn’t the Soviet government use the “mental illness” routine against its dissidents?

A crime is a deviation from generally recognized standards of behavior frequently caused by mental disorder. Can there be diseases, nervous disorders among certain people in a Communist society? Evidently yes. If that is so, then there will also be offences, which are characteristic of people with abnormal minds. Of those who might start calling for opposition to Communism on this basis, we can say that clearly their mental state is not normal.—Nikita Kruschev

They did. Political opposition was considered a mental illness (let's face it, you had to be crazy to speak out against the old soviet regime, right?) and off to the gulags it was.
It is a very slipper slope indeed, exactly what mental conditions are serious enough to deprive you of your rights? It's a subjective and sliding scale.
Anything that would deem you "dangerous", including making posts on FR, could be used as an excuse.

The thought process of many moronic liberals says you must be “mentally ill” if you disagree with them. Their simple reasoning says they can do anything they want to you after that determination.

In their mind they are so wise and they are only doing it “for your own good” until you get better and agree with them.

And they have the same plan here.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

Opposition to the Obama agenda is a form of mental illness & those who hold to that view are a menace to society & themselves. The forces of public safety will act in accordance with this directive.

Bottom line, end of discussion. Accept it, comrade.

The vast majority of guns in this country have never required regulation. The simple fact is that liberals really have no clue how many guns are out here.

A gun properly cared for can remain useful nearly indefinitely.

Ya...not enough evidence......idiot!

This nation needs to turn to God and quit relying on shrinks for troubles they can not resolve.

Shrinks will never turn over records to gov’t, precisely because of the chilling effect it would have on potential clients.

This is indeed an extremely slippery, and dangerous slope. Note how the left is already starting to imply that anyone who is at all bothered by, or opposed to, the policies of Obamao and the left in general, are "extremists", or part of some "lunatic fringe". And if you believe in the 2nd Amendment, well then, you're flat out crazy in their eyes. And yes, this is exactly how it was done in the good 'ol Soviet Union. No surprise that our own homegrown Marxists and would-be communists (excepting Obamao himself, of course, who is anything BUT homegrown) would seek to use this same tactic.

Several years ago, as part of a divorce settlement (my wife's divorce from her abusive first husband), I was required to participate in an "evaluation" of the interaction between me, my wife, and her two young children, which was done by two separate psychologists (her husband refused to use the same one, so we all got to go through it twice).

Having experienced, first hand, what the psychological "profession" is all about, I can tell you that there is no way that ANY of them should have ANY say in your life, whatsoever. These were among the most clueless and useless "professionals" I have ever encountered. Their "analysis", such as it was, was superficial, extremely biased towards whomever was paying them, and absolutely useless. The whole profession, the whole industry, is a joke. No one needs a degree in psychology to know that Adam Lanza was completely screwed in the head. But one does need a degree in psychology to fabricate a bunch of pseudo-scientific crapola to peg a perfectly normal person as some sort of "danger" to themselves or others, on the basis of nothing more than the fact that they don't agree with some arbitrary notion of "normality".

The kicker is how much these two psychologists robbed us for: around $7,000 EACH, for no more than 3 hours of actual time in their presence. What a joke...

Oh, wait... Is that a knock at the door? My critical opinion of psychology must mean I am not mentally "stable"...

Farewell, comrades!
