Authorities in Northern California say a man arrested in nothing but a trench coat and socks after a break-in told investigators he had been using the homeowner's sauna.

Calaveras (ka-luh-VER'-is) County sheriff's deputies arrested 49-year-old Robert London this week after they responded to a report of a burglary at a home in San Andreas. He pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.

How do you use a sauna to catch a burglar?

I lived in San Andreas when I was 4 years old. I doubt that there was a house with a sauna there in those days, although the high school had bats in the attic. My father (the chemistry teacher and coach) had to chase them out.

The main thing that I remmber about tiny San Andreas was the “museum” which was next door to the General Store and shared space with the library. They had a thick, square (at one time) steel, can in the window that had been ripped apart by a bear, dating from the gold rush days. That made quite an impression on a 4 year old about the power of a bear, I can assure you. It is memory, still vivid.

We must outlaw saunas. No burglar is safe as long as home owners have saunas.

When saunas are outlawed only outlaws will have saunas.

YOU can have my sauna when you pry it from my cold wrinkled hands!
