Experts baffled over mound of human skulls found in Mexico
CBS ^ | January 31, 2013

Archaeologists say they have turned up about 150 skulls of human sacrifice victims in a field in central Mexico, one of the first times that such a large accumulation of severed heads has been found outside of a major pyramid or temple complex in Mexico.

Experts are puzzled by the unexpected find of such a large number of skulls at what appears to have been a small, unremarkable shrine. The heads were carefully deposited in rows or in small mounds, mostly facing east toward the rising sun, sometime between 660 and 860 A.D., a period when the nearby city-state of Teotihuacan had already declined but the Aztec empire, founded in 1325, was still centuries in the future.

Georgia State University archaeologist Christopher Morehart, who found the skulls last year in Xaltocan, a farming village just north of Mexico City, said that between 150 and 200 adult skulls or their equivalent in bone parts have been excavated so far from fields that stand on a former lake bed.

There were also indications that the site remained a ceremonial spot for centuries after the human sacrifices ended, and perhaps is still used for that purpose. Morehart said researchers found a plastic bag containing a black candle, an egg, and paper streamers wrapped around photographs of people at the site, what one local worker suggested was a form of witchcraft.

I have an idea. Let's bring in 10 million of these headhunters and make them citizens!

facing east toward the rising sun

Couldn't face west to the rising sun, so it's best to face east.

And they keep on telling how cruel Cortez and the early Spaniards destroyed an advanced “culture”.

When will the intelligentsia just admit that murder is just part of Mexico’s DNA? Cortez was the best thing to e ever happen to that sh/thole country. He is my favorite Mexican.

They buried the boy by the river,
A blanket over his face --
They wept for their dead Lieutenant,
The men of an alien race --
They made a samadh in his honor,
  A mark for his resting-place.

With the accuracy of so called scientists in measuring global temperature, the dating could be so far off the skulls could have been placed by a drug cartel a month ago.

Are they sure those skulls date that far back? Can’t help but wonder if they are a little more recent. Maybe Montezuma the drug dealer did this.

"Very few rural areas or rural shrines have ever been located, so it is hard to say that this site represents an unusual find. It certainly is unusual for being the first such feature excavated by archaeologists, but it is possible that such shrines were more common in ancient times; we simply have no idea."

Funny isn’t? How if your not looking for something you rarely ever find it.

Kind of like an honest Democrat!

How could that possibly happen without assault rifles and 30 round magazines?

“There were also indications that the site remained a ceremonial spot for centuries after the human sacrifices ended..."

Why must these self-important "scientists" always pound their preconceptions into every discovery they make?

These savages were bloodthirsty animals in routine matters, and on a killing spree most of the time. Beheading was a common method of killing their enemies, and different regional groups were constantly at war with every other group.

No "sacrifice" of any sort is needed as a rational explanation. They had to get rid of enemy remains somewhere.

Simple as that.
