told by Remington Arms that the company plans to spend $20 million upgrading its gun manufacturing plant in the Mohawk Valley.

Google tells me that Mohawk Valley is still in the state of N.Y.

Disappointing...

three Assembly members met with Remington officials on Wednesday to discuss what they could do to ensure the company keeps its plant in the Herkimer County village of Ilion

Massive tax breaks? Opt out of Obamacare?

Long time Remington fan but look elsewhere now for bolt actions. Perfect example of a Finance run company as opposed to an Engineering or Sales driven company. It now costs an additional $400 to $600 to clean up a 700 so it is usable. YMMV.

If I were an investor in that company, I would be very disappointed in their choice to put money into a place where their products have a limited market. It doesn’t seem a stretch to think that NY may try to limit the manufacture of some of their products.

Wonder if this is related to the expansion mentioned in this 2010 article...

ILION, NY --(AmmoLand.com)- Freedom Group’s COO, Joseph B. Gross, today announced that the Remington Arms facility in Ilion, New York, will add 100 manufacturing jobs as it relocates certain production from its Marlin factory in North Haven Connecticut. The 194-year-old Ilion Firearms Plant, which is the Mohawk Valley’s largest employer and the nation’s longest continuous manufacturer, will receive $5.9 million in building improvements, equipment and machinery investment over the next two years. The project will be supported with $1.5 million in grants from the Empire State Development Corporation, $200,000 in 2010 electricity cost subsidies, and the New York State Office of Community Renewal has earmarked a $750,000 New York State Community Development Block Grant for the project.

Or, is this expansion in addition to? Regardless, they should be moving out of, instead of expanding in, this state.

Remington has been phoning it in since DuPont cut them loose, and a decision to stay in the nest that their elected officials have crapped in (to overflowing) is no surprise. I'd like to say that such stepping on their own genitalia is out of character, but hearing that “Freedom Group/Cerberus” Remington insists on staying behind bars is really no surprise.

If I could scrape together enough to get a Benelli M4, I’d make myself Remington-free in a - pardon the expression – New York minute... and this is coming from someone who grew up very enamored of Big Green.
