Could a “gastric bypass in a pill” spell an end to diets and be the key to tackling obesity?

Shedding the pounds without dieting, exercising or resorting to surgery sounds impossibly far-fetched. But it could one day become a reality, thanks to probiotic tablets full of friendly bacteria—a “gastric bypass in a pill”.

The idea was developed from the observation that gastric bypass operations led to changes in bacteria in the gut, as well as quelling hunger and cravings for unhealthy food. …

It is thought that the bacteria that colonize the digestive system after a gastric bypass produce chemicals that aid weight loss by speeding up the metabolism. …

Hooray! Taxpayers can keep subsidizing the media by letting food stamps be used for junk food!
Junk food advertising directed at SNAP beneficiaries is keeping our media fantastically profitable!

BTW: a great cheap source of probiotics is fermented food. Fermented turnips are easy: just put salt, water, and thin-sliced turnips in a jar and wait a few days. Use them like pickles.

Where would all the fat go?

For probiotics I use my home made pickles and raddishes...same as your turnips with some spices & fresh ginger thrown in. Next I will try the saurkraut the same way. I also make my own kombucha (fermented tea) and kefir (from raw milk).
Probiotics are the way to refresh your own immune system and avert diseases, flus and the like.

People get fat by eating to much and not exercising. It’s that simple so no sympathy from me.

Looking for a cure in a pill is looking for a crutch that got you that way to begin with.

What about the people that eat “too much”, drink like fish, never exercise in their lives and remain thin nomatter what? I know several that actually start to “starve” if they don't constantly eat high calorie foods ALL DAY.

On the other hand, I can only eat 1500 calories, can't drink at all and must exercise 30-60 minutes a day just to not gain weight. I'm a 6ft tall dude and most tiny women outeat me! I've been strictly monitoring my diet/exercise almost 10 years and am still “technically” overweight. I look fine and can outrun most people but still have a relatively high fat. Great metabolism for ancient hunting/gathering but terrible for modern food, socializing and drinking.

There is definitely more to weight than eating and exercise. Far more other factors in some people.

What are you eating? You might be (and I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist) carbohydrate sensitive. You might want to try a low/no carb diet.

They’re lucky bastards.

I’m 6’1”, 220 love my beer, steaks, fries, ice cream etc... weigh 220, constantly active and work out daily. If I weighed what the charts say I’m supposed to weigh I’d look like some anorexic bitch. I stop being active and working out I’d be one of the fat bastards I have no sympathy for so that ain’t happening... personal responsibility.

“Some” people do have medical issues (very few actually) I’ll give you that however the vast majority of the fat SOBs are fat because they choose to be and I have no sympathy whatsoever. They’ll give you every damn excuse there is as to why they’re fat and then rationalize why they can’t loose weight and blame it anyone but themselves. Pure BS and I’ll call them on it.
