"PALO ALTO, California, April 1, 2013 A formal announcement will be made April 7 at the NASCAR STP Gas Booster 500 at Martinsville Speedway, but Edmunds has learned exclusively that Tesla, the electric car manufacturer, will enter the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ......Industry sources suggest that the reveal was supposed to take place one week later, at the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway, but with the announcement that the National Rifle Association would be the title sponsor of that race, the federal government decided to move the announcement to Martinsville. "We aren't sure how many fans would be friendly toward alternative energy at an event sponsored by the NRA," said the source, "and we have to assume a large percentage of them will be armed."
Released April 1st
Belated April fool.
Outstanding!!
On a more real note, my buddy’s daughter just got her Tesla.
It’s amazingly fast accel and dusted his Vette at least up to where we got scared and backed off (about 100 mph).
We’re gonna take them both to the drag strip and run legit if this “global warming” ever breaks here in Indiana.
This can’t be true. I read that NASCAR was going to announce that they were going to begin allowing Segways to race and then they would think about Tesla if the Segways prove to be competitive.
Sounds very very dangerous.
Number 1 driver...Danica Patwreck
Sure, they get great acceleration, but I don’t think there’s gonna be time for a recharge in the pit to make it through 500 laps :)
Good April Fool’s joke though.
My overall impression was, yeah it’s a good looking buggy, but for 70 grand you ought to get something.
She gets “free” juice at work, but apparently now having to fight with a Chevy Volt guy for the plugin slot.
“She gets free juice at work, but apparently now having to fight with a Chevy Volt guy for the plugin slot.”
Ha! If I saw that fight going on, I think I would tryto guilt-trip them both for selfishly refusing to carpool!
It would have to be the NASCAR STP Gas Booster 100. That’s how far these $100,000 over sized golf carts can go on a charge.
“Alright everybody with Surround Sound... TURN IT UP!!!”
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I saw a prototype all electric with - electric generator - (extremely high efficiency), with motor driven wheels, all computer controlled so that power is “Scientifically” applied to each wheel at all times and under ALL conditions.
It was designed to keep equal power and traction to all wheels at all times - in turns, in acceleration, in deceleration, should one wheel hit a slick spot, etc.
Of course it cost almost #2,000,000 to build the prototype.
It was built by a company in Golden Colorado.
Wonder what ever happened to that car and that company.
I thought they raced 500 miles.
Pit stops for refueling will be all day stops.
do they only come in one color.. black? I seen 3 this week here in my sillycon valley ‘hood..
