Amen! Time and Newsweek both had him on their covers within a week of each other back in the late '70's as I recall. It was the first I had heard of him. Let's face it, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits were successful, too...at least they had memorable lyrics.

maybe starting with the Monkees, but any boy band that was put together to appeal to prepubescent girls with out regard to their ability to create and perform music. (e.g. Monkees, Back Street Boys, New Kids, etc)
