Florida Trooper Slaps Camera, Tells Man it’s Illegal to Video Record her

It’s gotten to the point where the Florida Highway Patrol in Jacksonville have been accustomed to Jeff Gray video recording them, which is why most don’t bother him when he does.

But all it takes is one ignorant cop to make them all look bad.

At least in this case, the other cop whom she called for back-up didn’t join her in violating Gray’s Constitutional rights.

So in this case, she is left on her own looking like a bully with a badge after slapping Gray’s camera. That’s assault, after all.

Her name is Thompson and she doesn’t appear to be a rookie. In fact, the stripes on her arm indicate she is a sergeant.

But still, she was stupid enough to say the following:

“By law, you can’t videotape me if I don’t give you permission to.”

She beckoned for back-up where a male police officer apparently informed her that Gray was within his legal rights to record her, so she stepped back inside her patrol car and drove off without saying another word.

That sounds like the criteria the DEA uses when looking for drug couriers at the airport....

They suspect people who:

Are the first to exit the aircraft.
Are the last to exit the aircraft.
People who exit the aircraft in between the first people to exit and the last people to exit.

So what’s left? Going down the emergency shute?

For the same reason they don’t obey speed limits.

At least the St. Johns County deputy came off as sane.

The film was shot right next to the jail so some security concerns are valid.

IMO, COPS should not need to be wearing seat belts UNLESS there is high speed or danger involved. (OK, cops and prior cops, wade in here with your comments).

If I were a cop and I had to get out of that car a quickly as possible I too, would NOT be wearing a seat belt. With all the pouches, magazines, radio, gun and other trappings hooked on me, the last thing I need is any of it caught on the seat belt, thereby restricting me to the car.

Sorry but I take the cops side on this one. On the issue of the officer slapping the guys camera, that is assault, a BIG NO! NO!

Since when do cops follow traffic laws?

Not long ago, I followed a cop through a school zone while buses were loading up kids talking on his cell phone.

So if they are T-boned at the intersection on the way to chicken licken and are ejected from the vehicle on their head, causing brain damage, will the city/county be responsible for their injuries and decades of treatment?

Really? Because they might have to get out of the car quickly?

Why would the 2 seconds needed to unbuckle their belt be a problem, I mean unless there’s a sale at the doughnut shop?

GOLLY!

I just seem to jump to conclusions...and so silly of me, just because I have to deal with the lazy, insufferable A-Action joker I work with.
( BTW, I was told that I should never use the word “lazy” in referring to an “African American “ worker because that’s a racist “code word”., honest, that is part of our diversity perspective)....DUH.

No, he’s parked at the entrance to a Highway Patrol office videotaping officers as they head out to the highways. Appears most of them are not wearing their seatbelts. There is a sign about a seat belt enforcement program.

Female affirmative action hire and promotion all the way, is what I’m sitting here thinking.

Another donut bloated, affirmative action hire captured and displayed on the Internet embarrassing competent LEO’s.

Florida needs a law allowing the abused to collect judgments first from the assets (including pension fund account) of the abusive LEO - and only after the LEO’s assets are depleted should the taxcpayers be billed.

PS IMHO, the management of all offending LEO’s should also be financially liable. That would stop the Clown Cop Circus STAT.

This trooper does not know Florida law

It is perfectly legal to videotape someone, as long there is no audio.

All squad cars have cameras that video and audio record. This trooper had no problem leaving it on

Also... so many areas of Florida have cameras now..what, this trooper going to tell them to stop, too

Since nobody else will say it, I will...what that trooper did was to gently move the camera to one side, she did not slap it. That aside, she obviously did not know the law in regards to video recording in public spaces.
