Stonington — A Quaker Hill man was charged with reckless driving Saturday after police say he drove 139 miles per hour on Interstate 95.

Stewart V. Williams, 25, of [Adress redacted by Moi --TSR], Quaker Hill, was charged with reckless driving, greater than 85 mph.

According to State Police, Williams was traveling northbound near exit 92 when a trooper used a laser clock to read the speed of his 2012 Audi R8 at 139 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone. Williams was stopped and taken into custody. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at GA 10 in New London on May 17.

130 in a 1988 Prelude Si 4ws. Couldn’t catch up to that T-bird.

139mph in a R8? Amateur. HAHAHAHAH! I was gonna say the exact same thing! I mean full-out, going downgrade on the interstate, the best my tuned GTI would hit was 136... in a 4 cylinder VW. But, gimme an R8 GT and expect me to hit 200MPH. Dream car... seriously.

That’s an Audi A8, not R8. It’s about 2/3rds the cost of the R8.

I had my ‘74 Vega up to 65 once. I thought the front end was going to come apart.

120 in a stock Triumph TR7 - like breaking the sound barrier, rattled like hell until 115, then smooth as silk.

can’t say i’ve got ‘official’ proof.
best i can offer is reckless endangerment for driving ‘in excess of 100 mph’

but the needle was buried on my rebuilt ‘75 camaro (max 130).

that car was definitely a beast... and i *really* needed to be somewhere

it had a 350 quadrajet built @ our shop. we built hi-performance street legal cars and professional race cars (specialty for drag racing)

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

Reminds me of what my father in law said when it comes to cars:

Him: "You can have it either: FAST, CHEAP, or GOOD. PICK 2."

Me: Uh....Ill have it fast and good.
Him: It ain't cheap.
Me....um....Cheap and Fast?
Him: It won't be very good.
Me: Good and cheap then.
Him: It won't go fast.

>>>He’s got me; best I ever did was 115 in my 1972 Mustang Mach I on I 465 in the wee hours of the morning. It had more to give but the Ford steering was so bad, I was starting to drift between lanes. That was enough for me.

Did 155 in my GTO on Business 288 (Brazoria County Tx) for a brief moment and then 150 on 288. 135-140 too many times to count.

Now...I can barely make myself go over the speed limit. We are making a trip across TX later this month and I have no idea how I'm going to drive 85...

I was in a “road rage” incident about four years ago between me in my 2001 chrysler 300m (with the suspension package that includes a governor at 142 mph) and a couple of guys in Jeep grand cherokees. It was also on I95 but in eastern Montana. I hit 142 to lose them but every time I backed off to 100 they eventually caught up with me again. This happened three times before I finally turned off at a small town exit. I didn’t want them to meet up with me in the middle of nowhere. I never saw them again, even after re-entering the roadway.

You cover a lot of ground at that speed.

155 on my namesake. Still smooth as silk, and with more to go.

In my youth, I was an absolute hellion behind the wheel.

One Sunday morning I received a ticket for going 120+ on the Golden State (5) freeway. It was kind of a joke, because the car in it’s condition wouldn’t actually go quite that fast.

Nobody was on the freeway early that morning. I was just letting off steam and cleaning out the carburetor.

The officer was shaking when he came up to my vehicle. It scared him to drive fast. I was respectful to the guy. He calmed down and didn’t give me too much grief. Kindof felt sorry for him.

The governor for my ‘12 sonata turbo is 153mph... Not bad for a family car. Don’t ask me how I know that.

One of the best aspects of being stationed in Germany for 3 years was going wide open on the Autobahns. I bought a new SAAB Turbo before I left and would go up to 135 MPH routinely.

I read an article some time ago about accidents that occur on the Autobahn. At one point a policeman who patrols a stretch of it was quoted as saying that he's seen scores of accidents that were so bad that the victims' remains couldn't even be recognized as being human.

I got up to 140 in my Z-28 and it felt like I was gonna go air born any second, so I backed off.

My 2001 Chrysler 300m was rock steady at 140+ but on corners, any bump allowed me to feel the difference in the front and rear suspension geometry. My main concern was a blowout at that speed, though my tires were rated for it.
