It's all about the odds, and one lone ticket in Florida has beaten them all by matching each of the numbers drawn for the highest Powerball jackpot in history at an estimated $590.5 million, lottery officials said Sunday.

The single winner was sold at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., according to Florida Lottery executive Cindy O'Connell. She told The Associated Press by telephone that more details would be released later.

Congratulations. Over Half of that goes to Florida and Washington DC.

And you will forever be on the IRS audit list...

I’m still happy that I didn’t buy a ticket.

Hey, remember me, your long lost beloved cousin? We should get together and spend, uh, share some money, uh old memories.

Nothing goes to Florida, we have no state income tax.

I seem to have lost my entire family, as of 7:45 this morning, when I checked my ticket.

I don’t know you.

BTW, Florida made its money on the people who didn’t win. Suckers!

Wow. Congratulations to the winner. I hope they enjoy their winnings and I hope they do something constructive with their money!

Agreed. I just would imagine how that would destroy my family. I think too much on this stuff. I want my kids to have the friends they have now, I don’t want to constantly worry about them and where they are. I like that they can just bop on down to the playground a block from the house without worrying about them being kidnapped for ransom.

Don’t want to worry about my multitude of ne’er-do-well relatives and in-law coming out of the woodwork with their sob stories, looking for a handout.

I want to give money *I* earned to my church.

Basically, the money would put me and my family into a class and situation I don’t even want to be in. I like my life being a little more simple, uncomplicated and un-bothered.

I’ve been to Zephyrhills and the only Zephyr is saw was on blocks and the only hills were being manufactured by ants.

My wife and daughter sometimes discuss what they will do with lottery winnings. I say to both: "I'm going to drop dead tomorrow, are you ready?" They look stunned.

That is way more likely to happen than winning the lottery.

Plus the idea that the prize has to be so large. One million dollars is still life changing money for most Americans.

600 lives could change dramatically, not one. Many would truly be better off as it is not enough money to get totally foolish.

I am with you. Nothing good seems to come of it, and believe me, I don’t mind money in the bank, and I don’t like being poor, but... No, thank you.

Here’s a question from someone who has never bought a lottery ticket... Isn’t it possible to simply receive the money and NOT LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW?

Can’t one win anonymously? Or must the name of the winner be broadcast for the world to know?

There is a way but one must be really smart about it and willing to wait a while before they can have their agent cash it in.

RE: wait a while before they can have their agent cash it in.

Agent? do you have to hire one? Or is one provided for you? And how much commission does he get?

I’m with you. These mega-bucks are obscene. Topping at a million would change lives for so many, and would also draw more to buy tickets. Why don’t they think that way? Sigh.
