A sleeper "Between Heaven and Hell" (1956) .

WWII Pacific saga with a good cast of characters, which shows some deaths by friendly fire, something that is not often shown.

I have trouble deciding which portrays the pain, anguish, horrors and futility of Vietnam better - Hamburger Hill or Platoon.
Probably a tie ... I'm in a cold sweat and a really nasty "funk" after watching either one.

You “old farts” are a dying breed not just around here, but in America. And when you are gone, what will we have? You folks are the heart soul and backbone of the conservative movement. Our ranks aren't being replenished with new blood because young people are complete morons who hate decency and American, family values.

Thank you old farts, for everything you've done for this once-great country. You brought America some of its best days.

Yes,we”old Farts”are a dying breed, and the younger bereations(X & Y)are NOT being taught Love of Country and Strong Moral Values, but what can you expect after subjecting them to “The Public School System’where they are taught ONLY the bad about their country, and then on to college for more”Programming”from The Left??I’m told that the avereage school book(US History)features ONE paragraph about Abraham Lincoln!!You get out what you put in!!!!!!!!

“the younger bereations(X & Y)are NOT being taught Love of country and strong moral values”

Find a family that is home schooling and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Memorial Day originates with the Civil War. So here's a Civil War pic: The Red Badge of Courage. Bonus for starring Audie Murphy.

Very sorry to hear about the bad times. Glad to hear things are looking up for you, one of these days whether you're back up in Yankee territory or I'm back down there in Texas it'd be good to see you again. I'm stuck up here in the People's Socialist RepuliK of Illannoyed for three more years, after that I don't care if I have to burn this house down -- I'm getting the hell outta here.

I hear retirement and Texas calling my name, it's only a matter of time now.

Peace to you bro, and please don't be a stranger. Too many good memories of you here, sending the love your way.

“Battleground” is one of the best WW2 movies ever made. Maybe THE best.

Dam Busters (RAF Sqd. 617) still shows well for a 1955 or so flic. The bases of director, actors and script were very well rounded to produce a home-run. Pork Chop Hill was good. Oddly, the camaraderie demonstrated in Band of Brothers reminded me of service in RVN...as a Marine! Hamburger Hill also had mindful moments.
If ownership of a video says anything, note that I have three “war” videos; Dam Busters, The Hunters (Robert Mitchum)and the Band of Brothers series.
Interesting thing about old movies are the actors that had bit parts then went on to greater roles. For example, Robert Shaw portrayed Richard Todd’s co-pilot.

Watched the movie Memorial Day (2011) on Netflix streaming not too long ago; not stellar, but worth a look.

Other modern movies to check out would be Valor, Restrepo, Defiance and Saints and Soldiers.

My favorites:
-To Hell and Back
-The Longest Day
-Sergeant York
-Band of Brothers
-Heaven Knows Mr Allison
-In Harm’s Way
