John Keegan in his book Fields of Battle tells of being in the White House for a meeting with President Clinton (along with other historians and some officials) in the planning for the 1994 commemoration in Normandy, and how when it was his turn to say something to Clinton he said, "Remember the Canadians" and "Remember the Poles."
