The noise these critters make sounds like a cheap 50's space ship sound effect.

I drove from Fredrickburg yesterday and they were very loud. Nothing in Williamsburg or south Hampton Roads.
I heard that Ft. Belvoir has a bunch, and so do lots of other places around. I hope we get to see some; they’re pretty cool in my book. Stink bugs on the other hand I could do without.
You could not take a step without walking on their dead bodies.
They weren't dead....
Well, almost.
So close to Deep Creek, Maryland...
It’s a loooong story...but Deep Creek getting overrun by cicadas this weekend would be poetic justice:)
“After waiting 17 years theyre ready to get down and get busy.”
I know there are different meanings of “Get Down” but in the case of the Cicadas, getting up is appropriate. They are nature’s aerators, living under ground until it is time to appear once again. We lived in Northern Virginia during the past several appearances. They leave a nice breathing hole for the earth to restore itself.
I grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs, and certainly remember those suckers one year... there were crunchy bug bodies everywhere... couldn’t walk anywhere without lots of crunching for a few weeks.
