Steven Spielberg on Wednesday predicted an "implosion" in the film industry is inevitable, whereby a half dozen or so $250 million movies flop at the box office and alter the industry forever. What comes next -- or even before then -- will be price variances at movie theaters, where "you're gonna have to pay $25 for the next Iron Man, you're probably only going to have to pay $7 to see Lincoln." He also said that Lincoln came "this close" to being an HBO movie instead of a theatrical release.

Neither would I but to those rich liberals that’s nothing. They don’t understand the depth of damage that 0 has done to our nation because they’re really not affected by the rampant inflation (though they will not call it that) and increases in lthe prices of goods and services because they live in their own insulated bubble. It’s just a few more dollars to them while we have to give up things to be able to pay our bills. Only when they feel the same pain will they sit up and take notice.
Why pick on the working man?
What about the actors, who get paid a zillion times more for doing even less work?
For $25. one can see live theater by professionals during the summer months in an historic, and restored façade theater in southern Michigan.
With a great sound system you can have a better enjoyment at home. Skyfall was good, The Dark Knight Rises was excellent, Les Miserables was good and a few others. You can rent them for $1 at Redbox.
Even if I had money coming out of my ears, I wouldn’t pay twenty five bucks for a movie ticket. Besides, they mostly make movies for Hollywood nowadays, not for middle America.
I have watched on TV or gone to the theater, about one movie per year.
And I have to be dragged to THAT movie.
Hollywood is ridiculous and filthy. There is no way I am supporting them in any form or fashion.
Was that how "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" and "Heartbreak Hotel" were recorded?

Actually, I wouldn’t pay anything to see Lincoln.
Spielberg has made pretentiously overblown predictions about the film industry in the past (such as claiming that the new digital technologies will bring “new kinds of stories that we’ve never seen before”). He was wrong then — the new digital technologies simply make it easier (and to some extent, cheaper) to tell the same sorts of stories we’ve seen since Adam and Eve committed the sin of disobedience — he is probably wrong now. The fact is, no one can really predict what sort of business model the film industry will adopt. It’s not his decision to make, after all.
I haven’t paid to see their liberal propaganda and filth in years.

I recently watched the 70th anniversary edition DVD of “Gone With the Wind”, not having seen the movie in many years. I was utterly flabbergasted at the super-high quality of everything about it: the writing, the casting, the directing, the memorable musical score by Max Steiner, etc. There was a 2nd DVD in the set that presented the history of the project and Selznick’s involvement in it. Amazing.

Well, yeah, but in typical Spielbergian fashion, he’s simply telling his audience what they already know, hoping to manipulate a “gasp!” from them (which is what he does in his movies, by the way).
It’s been clear and obtuse for some time now that the new technologies put the power of an entire studio in the hands of anyone. For just a few thousand dollars, one can buy a camera with higher resolution than traditional 35mm film; a lighting kit; a decent microphone or two; a Mac; Final Cut Pro editing software; After Effects software (for titles, special effects, etc.); and a DVD burner. All of these things make Spielberg and Lucas superfluous.
What Spielberg carefully avoided mentioning was that the new technologies also make pricey film schools superfluous. Everything one needs to know about the technical aspects of making a film can be learned by taking some inexpensive online courses.
The rot is rotting away? I don’t have a problem with that.
It is inevitable for the same reasons the changes in music this last decade were inevitable.
Ever cheaper costs to produce the product.
When Sun records first produced recordings of Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash the studio they used cost about three million dollars. In 1998 an aspiring musician could build a home studio just as capable for thirteen thousand dollars. Costs have continued to free fall since then.
Though the decrease of cost in video production lags that of audio, it is going to the same place.
And without the wall of cost, what is to keep the people with the talent working for someone else? The same thing that keeps musicians stuck in the same band.
Many years ago it was said there are only twenty eight basic plots for western TV shows.
Someone then asked....What are the other twenty six?
Lucy did all the possible domestic comedy plots on her TV show back in the 1950s.
Ever notice that the later Laverne and Shirley TV show used the same plots?
Ever notice that so many of today’s movies are based on old TV shows? Of course you have.
There is not an original idea in Hollywood.

Thank heavens for TCM and DVD recorders. I got hundreds of good movies on disk.
I am no longer chained to the TV schedule.
With what has been going on in the news as of late, you DO NOT NEED Hollywood to write a better set of scripts.
