I read the comment section after most of these news articles. People on both sides of the discussion seem to be in agreement that none of this would have happened if GZ had stayed in his car. So now we must stay out of certain neighborhoods, do not go out alone after dark regardless of the neighborhood now, and not get out of our cars. Wouldn’t it be much easier if we were told to stay in our homes and not be allowed out at all. What is the word for that...segregation? People will say but it is only common sense to stay safe. Really is that how we WANT to live?
GZ wasn’t stupid or reckless he had the courage of his convictions and yes now he is paying the price like many courageus men throughout history have done.

Maybe lawmakers will mandate a ‘roll over and play dead’ law...punishable by incarceration or fine.

They believe they can de program the instinct for self-preservation and deprive individuals of their right to self-defense? We’ll see.

Saying Zimmerman is at fault for getting out of his truck is like saying a rape victim is at fault because she should have stayed in her house instead of going for a jog.

Even if armed I would try everything within reason (so long as it did not put me or my family at greater risk) to avoid using deadly force. If I determine that deadly force is necessary to prevent death or harm I will use it to the best of my ability to kill the aggressor.

I also believe that George Zimmerman had no choice except to use deadly force. There is also no evidence that George Zimmerman did anything that escalated a confrontation. He did not even realize he was in a confrontation until attacked without cause.

Note: Zimmerman passed several lie detector tests at the police station. He gave statements to the police without his right to counsel. This is not the action of a guilty man.

It wouldn't happened if Martin hadn't left a child alone (yes, he was baby-sitting) and gone to the store to buy the 2 of the 3 ingredients to make "purple lean" (per his Facebook page, before it was deleted).

That seems to be the meme that has jelled post-verdict, in no small measure thanks to the media repeating the false narrative that the dispatcher ordered Zim not to follow the suspect. Which, of course, is not what happened. The “wanna be cop looking for trouble” is a close second to this.

The notion that following someone at a distance is justification to lie in wait for him and then commit a felony assault on him relies on the first two to somehow paint GZ as the aggressor in this whole mess.

Low-information voters, all of them.

So now we must stay out of certain neighborhoods

If you would stay out of a neighborhood unarmed (I grew up in Brooklyn), you should almost certainly stay out of that same neighborhood if armed.
