Why doesn't Rush take calls on "Open Line Friday"?

Rush says every week that the Friday show is for whatever the callers want to talk about, us "rank amateurs." The Friday shows seem no different that the Monday-Thursday shows, where Rush talks, we listen and then he usually tries to squeeze in a few calls.

If it's really going to be advertised as "Open Line Friday", I think Rush should begin the program taking calls from his audience and continue doing that until the program ends.

It’s his show, he can do whatever he likes. I don’t know how he advertises it now, but it used to be open line, but only if you were talking about a subject he found interesting.

Because he knows most of us would rather listen to him than to callers. He only uses callers to set up something he wants to expound on.

Rush has been doing his radio show his way for over 15 years.
Now that you've posted this on FR, I'm sure he'll fix this issue ;)

He DOES take calls on Friday. It’s called Open Line Friday because the calls can be on any subject the caller wants. The rest of the week the daily calls are supposed to be on the subject(s) under discussion that day.

Country is being flushed down the crapper and that's all he does is talk.
And sell tea.

Back in Rush’s early days he use to take MANY more calls than he does now. In fact he would often have the first half hour as monologue then do little more than take calls for the rest of the show. I think the whole “Open Line Friday” is a throwback to that. Because he rarely takes more than a couple of calls anymore and some shows he’ll go the three hours and take none at all.

It’s his show for sure and I love it, however he wants to do it. Just saying...Rush says Friday is for calls but then not so much in practice.
He just opened the 2nd hour saying he wanted to take some calls the 1st hour but there was just too much news....such as (these are Rush’s words) such as about the man that killed his wife and posted a pic of her dead body on Facebook. He just had to cover that, lol!

Rush is a talented talk radio host, but not always disciplined. I am sure the engineers have ALWAYS told him he runs too long in segments at the top of the hour. Very early in his national show he responded to complaints about not taking enough calls by having a 30 or 60 second timer for each caller, then a buzzer, and a lady with a thick, fake sounding southern accent saying “Yoo-ur Tahm is up!” And of course there was the whole caller abortion thing as well.
The calls are a prop, and he has never pretended otherwise. He will give special consideration to conservative minorities and recent immigrants, and to loons like Dorothy X from Detroit, and Mick of the High Mountains of New Mexico (RIP).

Friday can be news dump day. Thankfully, Rush “monologues” to cover the end runs by the administration goons trying to use the weekend to set the agenda for Mrs. Greenspan and Scarborough to hit the following week on pmsnbc.
Spare me from innocuous conversations from the sports and diet callers that “open line” invites. Just my opinion.

Sorry to be contrary but callers are the worst aspect of his show. Prescreened by Snerdly, king of the frequent, annoying interruption, the callers add little of substance and too often present a boring litany of praise and thanks-for-talking-my-call.
New depths were plumbed when planted callers praised his silly ice tea.
If we are going to be subjected to callers on Friday then we should be entitled to a Callerless Wednesday.

Hell, at least it's a consumable. I'm tired of being told to buy market commodities during a downturn because it's a hedge against inflation.
