In Roman times the wrist was considered part of the hand; that’s where the nails went, not through the palms.

There is some real smart physics gal that has studied the Shroud, and I think is the one that came up with the idea of a “big bang” theory. On a Biblical note that makes sense considering the “new Creation” because of Christ’s death and resurrection.

I think it was her that also talked about how the image is the same the entire way around the shroud, with no compression of the image or the muscles showing on the back side - so no body weight pushing down. A suspension of “time and space and gravity” at the instant of the resurrection.

Very interesting surmisings. New creation... big-bang like... it would be very much like God to do that! Nuclear effects that would need the modern age to more fully reveal!

Not being dogmatic about it, but oh my what investigation down that alley might determine. One of the more astute of the big-bang creation theorists is Hugh Ross at http://www.reasons.org Reasons To Believe. Correlate the big-bang theory with the Shroud — look for identical markers — well, as long as it is to the glory of God not the glory of the investigators, at the worst it is another path that did not pan out.

I am of the opinion that it was not so much a ‘big bang’ creation moment as it was a phase shift to what God has created for those who are in Christ. The realm already existed, Jesus merely left ‘here’ and stepped into ‘there’. He stepped back and forth for forty days following that first step, too. I happen to believe the Christophanies occurred during that forty days before His ascension.

Yes, which is why I treat it as an interesting hypothesis to be looked into, but not a terrible disappointment if it does not pan out. “Test everything; cling to the good; avoid every form of evil.”

The function of the shroud was to increase the congregation and collect more offering

The author of the TOF blog is Michael Flynn, a (fairly) well known science fiction author. This long blog entry fits his style very well. I am not surprised that he wrote such a long article, but did not know of his interest in the shroud.

One of my all time favorite stories is written by Flynn and is now available at:
