What is the best software or website to stream live TV, (including the networks) online? I would greatly appreciate any help on this.
between hulu, Netflix, megashare, crackle, and youtube there is so much to watch online I cant ever see having a TV again
I watch YouTube videos like crazy- just learned how to fix the concrete in my garage floor, and landscaping and gardening videos are great too
If you mean showing TV network programs on your computer at the same time they are broadcast on TV, you would be looking for ‘shady’ websites.
Day after and later viewing of many programs can be found on the individual TV network websites, on Hulu and Hulu Plus (fee).
If dates (whether current or not) is not an issue, several services offer older series for a fee: Netflix and Amazon.com are the two most used.
You can also purchase individual programs on Amazon.com ($2 or $3 in HD, IIRC) and via iTunes.
You are right, the DIY vids are great
Aside from the subscription services themselves (and the few free ones), one of the best ways to stream TV is with a Roku box. You buy it for a one time fee, hook it to the TV and the Internet, and for each subscription website, you enter your unique roku key, and after that that the roku box syncs up like magic with your streaming services.
July 16, 2013: "The broadcast television networks, which failed to persuade a panel of federal appeals judges to shut down the Barry Diller-backed online TV service Aereo Inc., lost a bid to have the case reheard by the full appellate court.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in New York found in a 2-1 ruling in April that Aereo doesnt violate the networks copyrights for programs because its transmissions to subscribers arent public performances, which would require a license. In a filing today, the appeals court said it wont review the case."
Yes, I meant showing TV network programs on my computer at the same time they are broadcast on TV... oh well, thanks.
Here's one of the antenna arrays. They'll have millions of these dime-size antennae running. You rent one with your subscription payment.
For paid service I think Netflix is best at $9.00 a month, most say they have nothing but old stuff, maybe so, but I’ve seen a lot of stuff 2010 thru 2013.
Now I worked at least 16hrs a day for over 40yrs, so I didn’t watch much TV, or movies at all, so it is all new to me.
Basically, no. That’s what they’re all afraid of...and it’s a question of “when” not “if” a new business model will emerge.
The content providers for popular TV shows think their best path to market is via cable or broadcast networks. Which is why you won’t be able to find an online source for any current series unless the provider has enabled it. Availability ranges from some episodes to all, with many providers not offering any at all, legally that is. And there are some available as pay-per-view.
There is a lot of free online stuff to watch, but if you want specific programs, here’s the best place I’ve found to get the legal options for online viewing:
We’d love to dump cable and watch via the internet. The only problem is that our internet service is not fast enough (or consistent enough) for streaming. It’d have to be downloaded first in order to watch without lots of stops and starts.
Right now our off-air option is DVDs.
It’s not in my area, but thank you for the information.
I have a question if someone can help me. What do I need to get in order to stream movies or websites from my computer to my flat screen TV? I have a Best Buy down the road but haven’t paid a visit yet. I don’t want some salesmen to take me to the cleaners selling me something I don’t need.

I forgot to say I was referring to my laptop.
If you have a fairly new TV and computer, it’s easy. First, look on your TV to see if you have either an HDMI input or an S-Video input. If you do, check your computer for the same. Assuming HDMI, go to your local Best Buy and pick up a cheap HDMI cable. Don’t be fooled by a salesman telling you to buy the more expensive ones. Belkin makes a good one for about $25. Then go home, hook the computer and the TV together with the HDMI cable and scroll through your “source” button on your TV. A picture of what’s on your computer will show up. Once you have that, just navigate from your computer to netflix or hulu or whatever. Now you’re off to the races! Hope this helps.
DirecTV allows what you are seeking provided you are in your home connected to the same wifi network.
Will I be able to link Free Republic and make it show up on the flat screen and be able to post on the forum using the laptop? I have a Toshiba Qosmio
and a HP Envy I just purchased last week.
If you don’t need it instantly, http://monoprice.com is a good option for cables. Their prices are hard to beat, and they don’t Amazon you on shipping. (I’m referring to the Amazon practice of charging the same shipping for each item, even if you order a dozen of the same thing.)
Lookup Google’s Chromecast and check it out. $35 plus shipping from Google. I’ve ordered one.
