LAS VEGAS—CES is packed with plenty of offbeat gadgets, but the Precision Guided Firearm that TrackingPoint brought to the show this year is the first lethal weapon I’ve ever seen at a tradeshow. Of course, the PGF isn’t just a rifle; it’s a system of devices designed to work together to make hunting safer and more enjoyable through technology.
A processor inside the rifle collects environmental data like temperature, barometric pressure, distance to target, the orientation of the barrel and even the Earth’s magnetic fields from sensors built into the networked digital tracking scope on top of the rifle. The user can then choose to input more data like wind direction and speed, then use the digital tracking display inside the scope to find a target and “lock on” by pressing a big red button. The scope will then display a big red dot that automatically compensates for environmental variables like wind, distance and intervening objects to show the user where they need to point the rifle in order to hit their intended target. It will even track the target if it moves by employing digital image processing techniques to determine what object the user is trying to target (elk, deer, a paper cutout, etc.) and updating the targeting reticle as the object moves relative to the rifle.

No, it won't do. I could put RFI tags on the little buggers, shoot heat-seeking GPS-guided smart missiles at them and they'd still fly off laughing at me. They were put on earth just to piss me off.
Why not just load the nearest grocery store in to your GPS and get a pre sliced cut of meat?

On sighting in days we have people with $1,500 rifles and $1,500 scopes who can’t hit paper at 25 yards. We help them by having a bore sight in the office. Now you will have to hire a computer tech at $110 per hour. It still won’t help the folks who spend an hour cursing the rifle and scope, because they can’t seem to get into the correct position or pull the trigger correctly.
Not that I am any great example of doing it the right way. I always try to talk my son who is a former Marine rifleman into going with me to the range.
A word on firepower… 3000 round clip with bursts of 3 to 300. With Replay, another Zorg invention, it is even easier. One shot… (bang) with Replay sends every following shot to the same location.

This thing sounds like the iSniper scope in Stephen Hunter’s book of the same name.
No matter what, some folks just can’t shoot.
A couple weeks ago I was sighting in a Sharps .45-70 with Montana Vintage Arms Soule Vernier sights (think Quigley Down Under). Bore sighted, did the math on bullet drop, adjusted up 17 points (the verniers don’t do MOA) and placed 3 in 1.5” only 3” from the x-ring at 100 yards.
The guy next to me with a Weatherby .300 and Leopold Vari-X 2 was all over the paper.
