The only fort I would have is either a boundary fence or something to keep animals in/out. As far as keeping people out, If SHTF, I’ll be going to the family acreage 100 miles from a city. I dont expect a mad rush of people going there when there more attractive targets for thieves and robbers.

Want you want is an appropriate amount of cover, concealment, and terrain which will slow down and funnel attackers.
If I lived in the country I would also include barriers which would hinder tracked vehicles.

I don’t know if you are kidding or not.
Sepsis is an infection in the blood. The infection goes to every organ in your body and you die. Even in a hospital with antibiotics going through your body, you will be lucky to live and more likely to die than live.
If you get an infection anywhere on the outside of your body, treat it immediately. Have tubes of triple antibiotic ointment or cream to treat cuts/wounds. The point is to keep the infection where it is, on the outside and not inside your body.
If there is an infection inside your body and there are no antibiotics for you to take internally, you are in trouble as that infection is the kind to invade your blood stream much more so than an outside wound.
Example: My husband had double pneumonia, was in the hospital, and doctor said he thought he might have sepsis now and sent off a blood sample. He thought that because other organs began to not function well. I knew he would die if that was true, but the blood came back not infected.
Sepsis is the immune system’s response to a serious infection. A total collapse/major organ failure. Could be bacterial in origin, but also fungi, viruses, and parasites. In short, don’t get scratched while traversing rusty barbed wire fences, be very careful of what you drink, and most importantly, don’t get yourself shot. All incoming rounds have right of way.

I thought so too, but ErnBatavia reports that it did not work upon repeated trial. Oh well. I did not try it yet.
A close friend of mine died from sepsis. He simply didn’t take care of himself, got sick, and still didn’t take care of himself. By the time his wife decided to ignore his wishes to not call an ambulance it was too late. He died on the way to the hospital.
Take care of yourself and treat ANY wound properly. Wash it and use the anti-biotic ointment. In field conditions the simplest wound can kill you if you don’t care for it.
The question you have to ask in any SHTF scenario is “what will the military do?” The Army and Marine Corps (including Guard and Reserve components) have 100+ ground force battalions and plenty of fuel, rations, ammunition and air support. Most of the population and industrial infrastructure is within range of naval gunnery and all of it is reachable by strategic bombers and fighter-bombers. Unless the military stays in its quarters, or completely dissolve with their armories and storehouses somehow destroyed, what those battalions, ships and planes do is going to determine how it goes.
(You don’t need to secure every 40 acre spread in the middle of nowhere or every ghetto housing project, and you probably don’t even need to control any of them — you just have to control infrastructure for food, fuel and media, and that’s more than enough to achieve whatever disposition of chaos you choose.)
