Apple’s iOS 7 will release to the public tomorrow, and many people are eagerly waiting to update their iPhones, iPads and iPods. The mobile operating system has been completely revamped, so if you want to be ready for iOS 7 you might want to get prepared. It’s time for the iOS 7 download countdown, so get ready!

We’ve been keeping readers informed about iOS 7, and the first thing to note is that this will be a huge change that some might find take some time to get used to. However, many others will love the new look iOS straight away, and it will seem almost like having a new phone without having to pay anything.

Apple has announced that the new operating system will see a general release tomorrow, but as is usually the case, gave no indication of what time that might be. Recently we created a countdown tool based on the time that iOS 6 released last year, as this is the closest time we can predict. Our forecast is that iOS 7 will arrive around 9am PDT/ 12 noon EDT. That’s around 5pm in the UK.

“Jeeez, why are Apple haters drawn to threads such as this like moths to a light in the darkness? And they feel compelled to take gratuitous shots at Apple products.”

They like to preview the features Android will be stealing next...

Howdy Swordmaker!
I use a hand-me-down iPhone 4. Sounds like it is intended to work on a plain 4. Do you know a good page that has descriptions of any new capabilities and such. I probably won’t upgrade for a couple of months, as I generally think it’s best to let the rest of the world troubleshoot things before I make the move.

“Yes, owners of older iPhones, get ready to have your phone become a useless, crashing slow piece of junk so that Apple can motivate you to buy a new one.”

I’m running the latest iOS on my elderly iPhone 4, and it works well. I expect the same will be true of iOS 7.

That said, I’m eagerly anticipating an upgrade to the 5s, I’m really looking forward to a bigger screen, better camera and other improvements.

Enjoy your 920, but I think the iPhone is much more compelling overall!

I am still on my old iPhone 3G. Still enjoying it, and it is working just fine.

I will probably trade it in for a newer model for free. My son carries me on his family plan, because I am old and poor.

The trusty old 3G is my only telephone, so I can stretch my little stack of fiat as far as I can. It has never let me down.

I just can’t understand why you have a useless, crashing slow piece of junk. My phone is older than yours, and works just fine.

Must be a user error of some sort.

I’m gonna have to listen to this crap for the next week.

On Limbaugh's show no less...

Only Apple could make you click on these threads, right?

No one forces you to do anything so what is your motive for showing up on these Apple specific threads to complain about all things Apple and vaunt your superior whatever? Are you being paid?

Well, well, well.

And you demonstrate my point for some self serving, aggressive reason and presume so much that I never said, implied and have no history of.

1. Woz has been a good friend for some 25 years plus. I even introduced him to a good friend who is a blonde bombshell.

2. I get to hear about all that is Apple from all my friends and various cult followers of Woz.

3. Apple makes a superiour product to anything Microsuck platform.

4. Apple is always the innovator and first market maker because their products aren’t for people who like to RTFM, like me.

5. We have an original Powerbook and G4 that was given to us by Woz. Don’t know where they are but, they are likely in storage and probably next to my Mac SE.

6. We also have an original Ipod and Nano, also given to us by Woz and some newer models which we purchased.

7. We have a MacAir and two Iphone’s in the house, none of which I use. We even have an Apple TV.

8. Apple users get high whenever Apple puts out some update to their IOS or whenever they release a new product and I have to hear about it ad naseum and how superior they are.(which is true)

I however use Microsuck products for reasons I’ll explain later.

9. No one made me click on anything and I asked to be on “Swordmaker’s” ping list.

10. When I started using computers 30 years ago Microsuck platforms were the accepted standard for communicating and productivity tools in the business world. So I defaulted to using what was easiest and still do even though you can finally use cross platforms for those things these days.

I also was a gamer back in the day and Apple wasn’t a platform for that and I got really good building gaming machines. You couldn’t do that with Apple.

11. I included “null and void” on this ping list as he can vouch for everything above.

12. I just got an email from a friend who is all giddy about the new IOS.

13. I also have my original gaming machine that ran on 486 DX2 that I custom built and Woz put a sticker on that reads “It smells inside”.

finally, your post demonstrates my original post.

“Apple, Apple, Apple! It’s the best man! Can’t believe you don’t use Apple! and on and on”.

Now, feel free to respond on your tiny Iphone screen, that has more apps than anyone will ever use.

Oh, and Apple isn’t just the first to market and market maker. While Samsung outsells Apple at this time, they have the lowest profit margins, while Apple makes nearly 8 times more per device.

It will? I thought it was just a UI re-skinning and a couple of features Android had a while ago like a control overlay and a notification pull-down.

You thought wrong.

What else does it have? Are you excited about the release, and if so, what features are you most excited about?

We ditched our crappy iPhone 4s. Their Bluetooth never worked and their voice response was a joke. They crashed often and their apps were brain dead.

What is the OP’s motive? Are they being paid? This is FreeRepublic. I don’t think Apple releasing iOS 7 has anything to do with that.

Need to boost their ego is my theory. Same reason we see posts from those on FREERepublic telling others what they should or shouldn’t do. These same people turn around and bemoan the self-esteem boosting that is primary in Public Education.

I’ve been using iOS 7 on a 4s for the past couple of months. Works great. Started a little buggy, but the first thing you will notice is that it is decidedly faster. The big effort Apple made with this is to flatten out the design elements. Fewer bevels, shadows, fake textures, etc. They were not completely successful, but flat is the new black, so you would expect them to go there.

.... and it’s available!

I can’t wait to see how busy the servers will be when I get home and can actually download.

I am complete. :)
I struck a pose with my iphone, twisted left and right a little bit...
Asked my wife: see the 3D behind me?
I have become parallax!

Just keep trying to apply it. It took me about 20 times. You'll convince yourself that something's wrong, but just keep stabbing away at it. Your screen will finally go black and apply the update.

Servers are swamped right now is the reason.

Hi ALL! I’m all backed up and synced.

iTunes keeps telling me I need to DL the new iTunes 11.0.05 and I did it. Prefs says so.

Every time I click on “UPDATE” it asks me again to DL the new iTunes...

Rebooted etc. No effect.

Next steps?

I was sitting here minding my own business, and the software update box appeared. I got my upgrade to OSX 10.8.5...

I haven't had any problems, but apparently somebody did! Apple is always on top of keeping us safe and secure, and keeping the engine tuned!
