> Completely believable. Cows are sneaky. It’s also conceivable that no one in Georgia knows how to capture one.

Sounds like an event that happened in a small Western New York town in the New York Southern Tier about 25 years ago.
A bull escaped from a farm and for two or three years was damaging fences and crops on the farms in the area. He evaded local attempts at hunting him down and bounties put up for his capture or demise for several years. Eventually, the damage stopped and everyone assumed he just died out in the woods. They never did get him or find out what happened to him.

Not many cowboys east of the Mississippi.

Six months to catch a cow. Eleven years to “rebuild” the World Trade Center. Our ancestors must be so proud.

oddly, while hiking my property in the Southern Tier NY Hills, I came across a cow skeleton on a rather steep hill side - no farms up top - all i can figure is it made the trek up from the valley

I went out with a loose cow for a while. They aren’t all that hard to find here in Vegas.

Actually there are plenty of cowboys and cowgirls here in the South. Don’t know why they didn’t call one. I’m a 63 year old cowgirl. Give me a rope and my “little red horse” and it would have been a done deal.

Sounds like no actual cowboys were involved. It should have been obvious whether it was a cow or bull even from a distance...it wouldn’t have taken a cowboy 6 months to pen her, and once she was penned there was no need to tranquilize her, a cowboy would have just loaded her out of the pen into a trailer. Cows are sneaky, but as my dad always said cows are dumb and you have to be smarter than the cow. My dad was a great cowboy so he knew what he was talking about for sure.

Actually, it’s “sue cow.” Cows can be onery but they’re not that fast or that bright.

I’m no cowboy, but if I told a client it would take six months to round up a cow, I’d be out of a job.

I have never claimed to be a cowboy or cowgirl for that matter but have many in the family and have always lived on a ranch. If I couldn’t round up a cow in less time I would never live it down. I have an 11 year old grandson they should have hired to gather her.

Sorry us folks up towards the mountains tend to get a little cranky when folks make fun of us. Truth is in some parts of the country they really wouldn’t know how to round up cattle under any circumstances.

It is fair time around here so I may have had too many weekends full of corn dogs and funnel cakes which probably addled either my brain or my sense of humor (or both)

No worries. I live in NE Illinois, which people assume is Chicago. I get the sideways look when I tell them I’m busy with horse vets.
