GOP should be running ads in NC today raising awareness of Hagen’s support of Obamacare and insisting she vote no. She’s up for reelection in 2014 and a vote for Obamacare in 2013 will hurt her if the Republicans make it an issue. Heavy pressure now may force her to break ranks and vote to defund it. There must be other Democrat Senators up for election in 2014 who can be pressured to defund.

One vote at a time!

Let Harry Reid stand there and claim the House rule "dead on arrival," all he wants but there are plenty of Democrats in Red areas, proclaiming themselves "moderate," who will be on the spot here.

Can Harry hold on to them?

Burr is a Republican but I say that bc I couldn’t tell if you were counting him in with Red State Dems up for re-election that Reid maybe can’t count on, or if you were making two distinct statements.

“One vote at a time” (Burr), followed by your other comment kind of had me wondering...

Burr has also been at times afflicted with RINO-ism.

Not sure if I should bother calling Rubio. He’s probably still in the Oval Office wearing his Presidential kneepads.

While the democrats only have 54 members, they also have Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Mark Kirk, John McCain and Lindsey Graham. And throw in Mitch McConnell to always help them behind the scenes, and as McConnell goes, so goes Cornyn.

His decision to vote to defund probably means there are enough votes for funding that his isn’t needed and he’s doing it for political cover with his voters.

Remember Colorado? The "GOP" told the recallers to stop. They had no support.

You are on your own.

I have just listened to the most infuriating 40 min. on Laura Ingraham starting with her introductory monologue and extending through an interview with Byron York. York has long been writing articles to the effect that the conservative initiative to defund Obamacare is wrongheaded and in any case cannot succeed.

Those who oppose the initiative always revert to the idea that the Republicans do not have control of the Senate or of the White House, both of which, they say, are necessary to repeal Obamacare. That is to misconceive the power structure.

By defunding Obamacare in the House, conservatives have seized the initiative. The Democrats cannot regain the initiative even though they control the Senate and the White House, they can only fight for some sort of parity. In other words, heretofore the Democrats have been having their way without paying a political price. Now they must pay.

The danger for the Republicans is not that they will not succeed in forcing the Senate and the White House to repeal Obamacare, it is that the Senate will strip the defunding provisions of the continuing resolution and send it back to the house. At that point the Democrats will not have regained the initiative-contrary to the assumptions tacit and otherwise of the Rinos-they will have at best placed themselves in the debate on equal terms with Republicans. But for the first time Republicans will have some sort of parity.

Just because the Republicans have now gained ground which they can defend and even use as a launching pad for attack, does not mean they will win, it means they have to fight to win. It is always been known by conservatives, Rinos and Democrats alike that if and when it comes to a shutdown it will be a fight for public opinion. At this point the Republicans will be able to say:

The Republicans want to keep the government open and shut down Obamacare.

The Democrats want to shut down the government to keep Obamacare open.

That is a political battle we can win. But we cannot win it if sellouts like Laura Ingraham and Byron York oh so piously cluck their tongues and pronounce the effort to defund stillborn.

The Republicans want to keep the government open and shut down Obamacare.

The Democrats want to shut down the government to keep Obamacare open.

Good mantra but its too bad we don’t have any conservative TV channels

We've had to deal with just this kind of thing. Lately, however, with heat kept on their fannies, they've begun to vote like they are true believers.

My advice is to keep in constant contact with them, let them know how you want them to vote, when the vote comes, either praise and thank them or let them know you'll be looking to run someone else in their next primary.

That's the problem with the Senate, six year terms and the mistaken belief that people will forget getting sold down the river!

Now, however, the worm is turning, thanks to TEA Parties, Freedom Works, etc.

Let’s see where this goes.

Ideally, the entire GOP Conference (even McCain and Graham, after a bunch of hemming and hawing) end up voting to defund. Possibly pulling a Dem or two over so opposition can be presented as bipartisan.

Then it goes to House/Senate conference, right? Where the GOP can again force Dema to fight tooth and nail to fund. But it passes out with funding intact, where it passes the House (under reconciliation rules) with the Dems fully in support and with a handful of safe-district RINOs providing just enough votes to get it through.

Result: the train-wreck that the Dems union allies are now running away from
screaming in terror and most of the public hates goes into effect with disasterous consequences but also with Dems bearing full and absolute responsibility for. Republicans get to ride the “we told you so” bandwagon into 2014 and 2016.

Burr is up for reelection next year I believe.

Having seen Tea Party opponents come forward in nearby states to run against the establishment candidates there (Lee Bright et al. in SC, Joe Carr in TN, and Matt Blevins in KY), maybe Burr is undergoing the 6th year Republican establishment senatorial metamorphisis from Big Government R to conservative R.

Any names being thrown out who might run against him in the primary?

Call your representatives today to defund Obamacare. Today is the day.

Even if you are in a Dem district.

Let your congressman know where you stand.

Then this moves to the Senate—so let your Senators know where you stand.

You can even call Sen. Cruz and Sen. Lee and encourage them in this fight.

A phone call is not too much to ask to save America.

DO IT!

Those who oppose the initiative always revert to the idea that the Republicans do not have control of the Senate or of the White House, both of which, they say, are necessary to repeal Obamacare. That is to misconceive the power structure.

Here
is an excellent read from Andrew C. McCarthy,a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.....

"Resistance is futile, in other words, so why resist at all? It’s an ironic argument since it seems Republican leadership only resists when doing so is futile, when the resistance is token. Thus the prior votes to repeal Obamacare, all forty of them, taken in the comfortable knowledge that they had no chance of succeeding – just going through the motions in faux fulfillment of a commitment to the base to work tirelessly to undo the law. But when something might not be futile – when it could actually work, and therefore entails hard work and risk – we generally find leadership in folderoo mode, babbling its one-half-of-one-third mantra.
