Foley lost in 1994 in a conservative wave similar to the Tea Party movement. Washington State voters had passed an initiative establishing term limits and he personally filed a suit against it - “Tom Foley vs. the People of Washington.” The idiot Washington Supreme Court nullified the people’s vote and made him look like a smarmy power-crazed corrupt jerk.

The only good thing I can say about him is that at least he was very pro-gun. Lifetime NRA member and proud of it, if I remember correctly. Stopped some stupid legislation during his tenure.

"Washington State voters had passed an initiative establishing term limits and he personally filed a suit against it - "
Then the good citizens of Washington term limited him, permanently. And now you know the rest of the story.... Good day!!
:)

Considering what has followed after him in the House Democrat leadership, he was absolutely civil. Wrong, but civil.

Now explain to Jesus on Judgment Day why you supported, pushed for, and wanted millions of American babies to be murdered?
What a wasted life by a sick, evil, little man.

No comment.Following your Mother's advice about not saying anything if you can't say something nice?
Well, I should be with you on that but foley was a fat, drunk, Irish prick, a vindictive bastard that would rip his opponents toenails out with glee.
I won't say I'm glad he's dead because I don't care one way or the other about old piles of dog shit.

Wrong!!!
And hed angered the National Rifle Association a decades-long supporter by allowing the House to vote on and pass a ban on some military-style semi-automatic rifles. For the first time since the start of the Civil War, a sitting House speaker lost a bid for re-election.

In the New York Times article on his death that almost spends more text bashing Republicans than praising Foley, there is this:
"And despite a long history of opposing any gun control measures, Mr. Foley helped win House passage of a 1994 ban on assault weapons, which played a major role in the Republican victory that fall."
