Its been 35 years since Joseph Paul Franklin shot and paralyzed porn publisher Larry Flynt, and he is set to face the death penalty in Missouri next month. But in an essay published in the Hollywood Reporter, Flynt writes:
I do not want to see him die.
As far as the severity of punishment is concerned, to me, a life spent in a 3-by-6-foot cell is far harsher than the quick release of a lethal injection, Flynt wrote.
While he does describe how he would like to personally torture Franklin with a pair of wire-cutters and pliers, his main reason is that he is against the death penalty.
And costs to the taxpayer? Flynt wrote, Execution has been proven to be far more expensive for the state than a conviction of life without parole, due to the long and complex judicial process required for capital cases.

What a wonderful man. Execute the shooter just to irritate him.
Can’t we give Franklin another try?
I mean, not his fault it didn’t work...
Uh, maybe you didn’t understand him correctly. ;-)
>> Execute the shooter just to irritate him.
LOL. Win-win!
I see the venereal diseases have impacted Larry’s brains.
Has ANYONE ever received the death penalty for ATTEMPTED murder?
Just execute both of them.
Just looked at the assisted suicides in Switserland, dirt cheap stuff. Chems costing next to nothing.
I doubt it. But Franklin was sentenced to death for the murder of the (interracial) couple.
I agree with Flint on this one. If I had to endure the murder of a loved one, I would rather the murderer spend the rest of his natural life in solitary confinement than be humanely euthanized.
The State of Utah wanted to try and execute him for these murders and they would have if the federals had not gotten involved.
The federals wanted a show trial for a civil rights violation. Yeah, duh, killing someone is a pretty severe violation of their civil rights. But what were they going to do to him that the State of Utah wasn't already to do? Long story short is that this jag-off is still consuming oxygen and jail space 33 years after the crime while the State of Utah would have stood him before a firing squad a year or two later.
Just so the federals could have a civil rights show trial. Nice show of justice for the victims, eh?
Ooooh.
Learned something.
While Flynt may have a point about the huge expense of sustaining a death row inmate - the obvious solution is obvious.
Put them down within 12 months of their sentence.
So? Streamline the judicial process then. Make Death Row have a permanent population of 3......One moves in, One moves out.
I still don’t get how execution costs more than keeping an inmate fed, clothed and housed for decades
Why should he be executed? He didn’t kill Flint.
Stupid failure of an attempted murderer loser, piece of trash.
Because it isn’t for that. He is involved in a capital case I believe shooting and killing an interracial couple completely separate from the Flynt shooting...
I think they should execute him for poor marksmanship.
He is a thug. Mostly blind. But still a useless piece of humanity. Off with his head.
Neither do I. I think this is the standard lib lie. It may make sense to them but when has logic ever touched those brain cells of theirs?
The penalty is not up to the feelings of the victim. The crime is against the state and the state has weighed the consequences of crimes and determined penalties. It is supposed to be a passionless and logical process, not based on feelings and emotions which sway with the wind. This avoids a harsh penalty for a “lower class” person in comparison with a person coming from the “upper class.”
Sorry, Flint. The penalty is not up to you. Now, go away.
