The workforce is even more stratified by race than you'd imagine. The differences in unemployment rates, participation rates, and average earnings between whites, blacks, and Hispanics aren't just stark. They're also sturdy, rarely yielding over the last 40 years.
The racial gaps are stark at the job level, too.
Whites account for about 81 percent of the workforce. But there are 33 occupations counted by the BLS (particularly those on farms, around heavy machines, in doctor's offices, and in C-suites) where whites officially account for nine in ten of all workers, or more. Here they are.

I kid you not, I saw that same commercial last night for the first time; I turned to my wife and asked when canoeing became so popular with blacks (I see people canoeing in the NJ Meadowlands, and others when I hike along the NJ/NY border, and they are without exception white - even though many blacks live in the area). I don’t believe there is anything “anti-white” about the commercial; it is just bizarre, as though they are trying to sell blacks a “white” lifestyle while selling whites an image of blacks completely at odds with what they see every day.

well, as a white, Christian male (and heterosexual to boot), i’m a member of the only group that it is legal to discriminate against. so, when I read something like that article, I think, well, its ok to point out homogenous areas like these jobs, because its mostly white men, but in polite company no one would dare say, “hey. lets get a Christian fed chairman for a change”. that is all.
You bring up an interesting point. The article is only focused on one aspect of the “study.” I’d be interested to see the statistics for occupations dominated by blacks and others.

If a job requires education, or is tedious, or dangerous in anyway then a white person will likely be doing it.
I gathered as much. It’s simultaneously amusing and frustrating to watch these people twist themselves into ideological knots ignoring what is right in front of them.
Perhaps they can't cut it.
I worked for a company in South Carolina. We were purchased by a New York based corporation. In our introductory meetings we were told our racist culture would be changed and they would begin recruiting blacks.
They assumed we were racist since we were in the South. But the folks from up North who came down were always evaluating everything based on race.
Our local facility was right in the middle of the black neighborhood. But the black people weren’t interested in our work. It was hard work.
They finally hired two women of the right skin color for the office. At one of our gatherings they announced they had finally hired some black employees, had them stand up, and everyone applauded them.
After the meeting they both came to my office spitting nails. They thought they were hired for their skill sets! They left shortly after that, and told everyone the new owners were the jerks and stay away.
Keep working your way down, and you will eventually get to the banjo... LOL
IMHO, the “blackest” jobs in America are in government. Social service agencies are full of good-paying, useless jobs sucking off the government teat while keeping as many other people uneducated and dependent on government in the name of job security.
This is after years of throwing money and studies and programs at *fixing* this *problem*.
High scores = better paying jobs.

The first commenter mentioned culture as a big influence in what jobs people pursue.
The second commenter argued that farming and ranching was a White man’s job because it took place in mostly White states.
The truth is that the Blacks moved to the cities to escape farm work. They were happy to move to the cities and collect a regular pay check. Farming was associated with slavery and poverty. After the Civil War, even the white farmers were struggling.
Valuing education for the sake of education is the cultural difference that influences these employment statistics. Asians dominate medicine because Asians put a very high value on education and medical schools have been very competitive academically and medicine pays better than veterinary school, although veterinary schools are even more academically competitive than medical schools.
The competition for slots in medical schools is declining dramatically, though, with the onset of Obamacare. Entrance slots at medical schools all across the country have gone unfilled the last several years.
