As for the barefoot guy: Meat, meet asphalt! Yeow!!!
I once took the meat off my knee from a motorcycle wreck wearing shorts. Knee looked like bloody hamburger. Oozing scab for a couple of weeks, Very painful & mobility near zero. Always wore long pants after that.
