Odd question on online job application
Me

Posted on 11/27/2013 2:29:36 AM PST by Grumpybutt

I filled out an online application for a clerk/cashier position at a national retail pharmacy yesterday morning. I've been bugged about a question on that application/assessment ever since.

"If hired, will you participate in the employers health care plan?"

I answered "no" but have to wonder why that question was even asked. Has obmacare now forced employers to "weed out" prospective employees by whether or not they are going to need health insurance?

Do not be too alarmed...question is asked because many spouses and dependent minors/adults are covered under other existing plans...and the company plan may cost employee more than plan already on.

This was before ObamaCare...of course there may be other reasons now

Thank you. If you’ve ever run a business and been responsible for a payroll you would understand that this is exactly the kind of employee you do not want.

Little harsh there...

You do realize that, if you are an engineer, your job is either a government job, or, your company takes government money of some sort...

You are the exact kind of a$$hole I would never work for I would undermine you at every point and be constantly looking for new work under decent conditions while just using you for a pay check. I know an a$$wipe when I see one.

“How you got all that out of Grumpybutt’s post is beyond me. And, I’m a physicist!”

Again, if you’ve been responsible for running a business, and hiring people to assist you in that endeavor, those who are complaining at the application process are not the ones you want in your workforce.

This business is providing at least one job - despite all odds against it, and all the taxes, regulations and red-tape. If one cannot express gratitude towards an opportunity given, that’s one thing, if one must further complain about questions asked in the application process, and beyond that if one has the temerity to assume ill-motive towards a potential employer for asking questions that directly affect costs - who is out of line here?

As an employer, you don’t want a complainer on staff if you can avoid it. If you want a job, don’t start out complaining about the job application - or that the interview is too early, or how many breaks you will get to take.....

I do not have a government job, nor do I take government money.

I don’t offer anger management classes at my workplace, so I’m sorry that I’m going to have to decline your application.

You say you're an engineer( I don't believe it) but you apply McDonald fry cook type management to professionals. You are stupid on top of being a total prick.

The HR question was about medical coverage. They weren't asking if he could calculate the moment of inertia of a structural cross section.

If I were an employer, I would see that question as an excellent way of knowing whether or not you are an Obama supporter... WITHOUT tipping my hand or exposing my bias.

Answer it honestly and move to the top of the list. ;)

I don’t think you could manage a moment of inertia sufficient to roll out of bed and show up for work even if you had a job.

Ah, somebody was passed over for promotion and is a little bitter about it?

Your eloquence is exceeded only by your insight.

I have turned down promotions because I wanted to stay technically proficient. I also know what management is like and working with bottom line a$$holes(like you) would make me so depressed I would probably jump.

My husband suggested I write a letter to their corporate officers and ask why that question was asked and if they are using the answers as a means to disqualify applicants.

Yeah, that is a sure fire way to get a job offer.
