Selena Gomez shows she's no Miley Cyrus during Cowboys halftime performance
Dallas Morning News ^

Grand Prairie-bred pop star, singer and actress Selena Gomez took the stage on her home turf Thursday as the halftime performer during the Thanksgiving Day football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

In part a product of the Disney Channel family, Gomez is clearly making a classier transition from adorable to adult compared to many of her peers (ahem, Miley). She was a vixen at center field Thursday, sporting a floor length skirt of leather fringe and golden, knee-high wedges. From hair and makeup to style and grace, Gomez exuded confidence and maturity.

Justin Beibers’ Sherpa trying to be better than Mylie? As if that would be hard.

Too bad, thought she wasn’t Ms. Cyrus. What does Disney do to those kids anyway?

-— I’m so old, I remember when there were marching bands at half time - and the networks covered them just like the game -—

Thank God that’s over. The Prudential Halftime Scoreboard was an improvement. Vanderbilt 17 - Ball State 10.

Some things have improved in my lifetime.

I know little about Gomez but based on the pictures from the link it is not clear that "classier" is a word I would use.

That's not saying much.

So that is the standard now - Not as bad as Miley Cyrus?

I still think it was just a little bit weird to see the overhead shot with her bumping and grinding over the Salvation Army logo on the stage.

Miley Cyrus knows exactly what she’s doing and is laughing all the way to the bank.

It’s amazing how many will criticize Miley for her antics, and then turn right around and download her music from iTunes.

Did you hear Mary J. Blige singing the national anthem. It was pretty horrendous.

I was frankly unimpressed with Gomez’ show. Her singing was dull and showed pop music at its most vapid. In fact, I heard it from my room and thought it was at least two other “artists” before I saw that it was Selena singing her latest McSong. I can’t understand anyone getting excited over that tired and worn out formula. At least Miley had the good sense to get nekkid in order to distract us from the lifeless music. It’s really what these girls pretty much have to do these days if they aren’t willing to learn how to actually sing and make interesting music.

I didn’t object so much to the performance itself, though that kind of stuff is not what I consider entertaining.

My objection was that it was done on a stage that bore a giant logo of the Salvation Army, an organization that I had always thought was Christian.

I found that part of it offensive.

We know why the Cowboys chose this act, demographics and beer consumers and all (Corona outsells Bud in many/most parts of TX), but STILL— the people who settled TX were intermixed with Mexicano’s, and their music mixed too (why most mex songs sound like a polka is because of German emigres bringing their music with them). Can’t expect much else, along with the gayboy dancers and stupid stage show. And lip sync— no doubt.

But this country and most of TX was settled and pioneered by Scotch-Irish, escaped miners/mountaineers (emigres from Scotland, Ireland, DE, Italy, Austro-Hungaria/Poland) from the ridge of KY/TN/NC/VA/WV and GA/AL. Their children fought both World Wars, and many other “skirmishes” to this day. For which this nation is thankful-or should be. The area has been ripped of its heritage (and private lands)and its conservative values replaced by govt. theft, graft and the welfare state stealing what was left of their pride. And now they are trying to do this to the entire country with obamaumaocare for the world statists our ancestors fought to drive out of Europe. Our culture demands this review and re-calibration to our joint heritage under our Founder’s Constitution.

So, here is a counter song to counter this awful dreck on TV. By a REAL singer— Patti Loveless with song written by a friend. Happy Thanksgiving and Deo Vindice FReepers.
