HELP! NEED GLOBAL WARMING! (vanity)
cizinec | 12/7/2013 | cizinec

I just moved to Oklahoma City from Houston. It's 5 degrees outside. I lived in Houston for more than a decade. The coldest it got where I lived was about 20. Maybe. For a couple of hours. FIVE. DEGREES.

I didn't turn my pipes on to drip and am now trying to get some water out before it develops into a major disaster. Yeah, I've lived in a warm climate so long that I kind of forgot about winterization. The heater in my car, for instance, quit working. I needed antifreeze. I just changed the oil in my car to something lighter than I had in Houston.

My wife grew up in Montana. She told me I was a wimp. Last night she rolled over and said something about the water bill with all the dripping. I said, "What dripping?" She proceeded to cuss me out and call me all kinds of fool. Hey, I've been living on the Gulf Coast for a while, so lay off.

I'm going to sue the SOBs at the UN and Al Freaking Gore for their failure to deliver on global warming. I would accurately express the fury I feel about this ridiculous temperature, but the thread would get pulled for language.

I point out that I grew up in Northeast Oklahoma (Green Country). I NEVER remember it EVER getting down to 5. FIVE.

WHAT DO WE WANT!

GLOBAL WARMING!

WHEN DO WE WANT IT!

YESTERDAY!

Global warming. What a joke.

It is -4 right now and about 58 degrees inside. It was -17 a couple days ago. Oh, we had a flood here in half of the state of Colorado also. The temperature is falling, Arctic 29% above last year. They missed the flood also and they expect me to believe their religion of global warming.

Do you own an SUV? If not then you are not doing your part to warm the planet. I own two.

People like you keep the economy rolling by giving jobs to repairmen.

Not sure I’d stress about the pipes. It won’t stay cold for long. I lived in Michigan for 45 years. A few times, it got so cold pop cans would explode in the garage, but I never had any pipes freeze. There’s often enough residual heat from the walls to keep the water warm.

Frozen solid here NE of Dallas.

Amazing how the lack of sunspots effects the temp of the solar system.

You are funny! I live in Houston, I hear what you are saying. We don't know nothin’ ‘bout no cold weather!

I went deer hunting in Alberta Canada with my husband, took my south Texas hunting clothes....... right?

I nearly died, it as 20 below and I don't mean 20 below freezing! YIKES!

You could have done worse than OK; Bismark, ND, had -40°F just a few days ago when the blizzards came thru. I remember temps in the Midwest, upper NY state and now back in PA, of -20°F, but you'll survive your 5°F misery. Bundle-up! and leave the water faucets dripping.

Got up one Christmas morning to a frozen pipe on the main water line into the house.
A hair dryer will get the water flowing in no time.

You definitely want to let the pipes run. I live in a very new house (10 yrs) and year three of ownership the interior bathroom tub pipe froze and broke resulting in the ceiling in the entry way filling with water and collapsing. It cost us several thousand dollars to repair. Turned out the contractor didn’t put ANY insulation in the north side of the house. What ever the water bill costs you, it will be less than the money to repair a broken pipe and walls/ceilings. Oh, I’m in Omaha were the current temp is -1.

If your water pipes freeze you obviously do not have protection against the cold entering the pipes. Get a good repairman and have him install the proper anti-freezing work on the OUTSIDE of your house. Been there, done that. No more problems. And I live in the COLD north.

Didn’t you get the memo? Record cold temps are caused by global warming. As well as advancing polar ice and pocket lint.

I didn't turn my pipes on to drip

That works around 30, it was 5, insulate your pipes.

I lived through the winter of 1976-1977 when the temperature dropped below 0 and stayed there for almost 3 months. Trust me; you will survive.

When the weather gets this bad, I'll say to my enviro-whacko friends, “I could use some global warming right about now.” Fun watching them implode at that remark.
